This Ikelite 6242.95 Ultra Compact Housing is designed for the Canon PowerShot S95 and S90 digital cameras. It is an injection-molded clear polycarbonate case, known for its strength and corrosion-free properties. The housing offers an unobstructed view of the camera's information and control functions and operates safely to a depth of 200'. An easy-open latch, along with drop-in camera loading, makes set-up a breeze. The housing is sized and weighted for near-neutral buoyancy and superb handling underwater.
All camera controls except the rear control dial are operational through the housing. A gear driven system allows use of the camera's ring function.
A flash diffuser is included to improve lighting quality when the camera's built-in flash is used underwater. For optimum lighting underwater an optional external strobe is recommended. Ikelite strobes are brighter, recycle faster and offer wider coverage than the camera's flash. Being farther from the camera lens, the strobe reduces the illumination of particles in the water, which helps eliminate backscatter.
The port accepts the 67mm threads of a wide-angle conversion lens without an adapter. Getting close to your subject will greatly increase the quality of your underwater photos. By eliminating as much water as possible between you and your subject, you will get increased contrast and better color. The wide-angle conversion lens can be attached and removed when underwater.

I recently ordered the S95 and its Ikelite housing.
My first time to order from B&H, the products were packaged properly, ready for shipment day after I order, package received with no damages.
Would highly recommend for international purchases.
The S95 is an excellent camera specially for low
light conditions.
I did a lot of research before I decided on this combination. Yes the P300 is better and cheaper with no RAW so was excluded from my side.
The LX5 and ZX1 were superior, however you need to remember that it is not just comparing spec. At the end of the day it is how good pictures wise and how easy you can use it underwater.
The ZX1 made me so confused and am still on ground so I also ruled it out.
The LX5 menu was fine but you have less housing options for it. The Ikelite one was roughly 200 more than the canon one, and I simply did not want to spend that much.
Draw back of the S95 / Ikelite is that you can not use the back ring. So forget about the M mode.
You will be able to use only the AV or TV mode.
However the manual white balance and the iso is very easy to access.
As I said I did a lot of research and compared the spec. yes the canon is a bit of compromise spec wise and the full manual mode.
On the other side, great pictures, very easy to use WITH THE CASING ON, the package is good value,
and multiple casing options are available.
available.
You want to pay more maybe get the Lumix / ikelite combo.

This is a solid housing. The buttons are made of metal and it feels more "rugged" than the Canon housing I have for my other camera. There are 4 problems that Ikelite should fix, before I would recommend to buy it.
1. The "play" button is misplaced. It is almost impossible to activate.
2. The "func/set" button is to short. It is very hard to activate, because the other buttons are in the way, when you push it in.
3. The "shutter" button is hard to press halv-ways to focus. Many times an attempt to focus result in taking a picture.
4. A lot of sand is caught between the housing and the o'ring. Prepare to spend some time to clean after a dive with particles in the water.

Comments about Ikelite 6242.95 Ultra Compact Housing for Canon PowerShot S95 & S90:
Nice housing. One great feature is that you can see and confirm the O-ring seal visually. Also, you have access to all the the camera controls EXCEPT one. The 4 way buttom has a spin dial, which cannot be accessed through the housing. Luckily the s95 (not sure about the s90) has a variable function wheel that can be used as a proxy for this dial.
My main irk is that the lower buttons on the housing may not work (ie reach/align with the camera) if the camera body is not perfectly aligned in the housing. This seems like a no brainer, but you should make sure everything works perfectly BEFORE you get in the water, other wise you'll find yourself trying to turn flash on/off or enter marco mode as depth with no options. This happened to me twice on my first day using the housing, but I seemed to have it figured out now.

this is well built and can take a little bump when in the scuba boat. the zoom buttom takes a little getting use to but overall the buttons are easy to use. My last camera did not have a on off botton so i am very pleased i can turn the camera off while in its housing.

Comments about Ikelite 6242.95 Ultra Compact Housing for Canon PowerShot S95 & S90:
This housing is simple and easy to use, and doesn't break the bank. Rear dial functionality is lost, but there's a cumbersome shortcut where you hold the shortcut key and press the left or right buttons which simulates turning the rear dial if you really need it. But this is a minor issue. Aside from that, the housing works great, and the polycarbonate housing is nice for seeing that the O-ring is seated well. I recommend putting a plastic screen protector on the back where the viewfinder is. All in all, it's a great housing that's affordable. The next better housings, like Recsea and FIX, retain usage of the rear dial and have other features like hotshoe mounts, but they cost at least twice as much.

This housing is very easy to use. I used it last week on the beach and was amazed by how easy it was to chnage the settings etc... I recommend to buy a water repellent for the lens

Comments about Ikelite 6242.95 Ultra Compact Housing for Canon PowerShot S95 & S90:
Very good housing for diving. Easy to use all the required controls for the camera are accessible. The Zoom button is a little hard to get use to because it does not recenter automatically. It is hard to zoom precisely because you need to recenter manually and this is hard with diving gloves and diving mittens. But this is a very sturdy case. Would recommend. The only problem is the ugly plastic cover you need to install (temporary) in order to use the flashes.

This housing is Ikelite 6242.95 and should not be mixed up with the 6242.90 that is for Canon S90.
The cameras are slightly dissimilar in measurements and button placements.

This is a great underwater housing! The construction of this device is far better than the Canon housing that is offered. Buttons and the ring control is so easy to use. I would highly recommend this Ikelite housing over the Canon.
