The V-LUX 2 Digital Camera from Leica is an advanced digital camera with a 24x optical zoom lens. Its extremely versatile zoom range -- 25 to 600mm in 35mm terms -- makes the camera a great option for travel. It is capable of recording 14.1MP images in JPG or RAW format, and can also capture 1080i HD video in the AVCHD format.
You'll have the option of framing images via a 3" articulating LCD screen or at eye-level via an electronic viewfinder (EVF). The LCD features a 460,000 pixel resolution, and can be twisted and turned in almost any direction.
The camera can record images in 14.1MP resolution using its Leica DC Vario-Elmarit 4.5-108mm f/2.8-5.2 ASPH lens. Fast enough for low-light use at the wide end, the camera features a built-in flash for those times when some extra light is necessary to get your shot. The camera supports ISO ranges from 80 to 1600 and shutter speeds from 1 minute to 1/2000 of a second.
The V-LUX 2 is capable of shooting burst images at 11fps at full resolution. If that isn't fast enough for you, the capture can be set to capture 2.8MP images at a stunning 60fps. And, of course, it is also capable of 1080i AVCHD video capture, complete with sound.
Adobe's Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements software are available with the camera as a free online download for photo and video editing. You'll be able to use this software bundle to organize and retouch photos, and perform fine edits on video clips.

This camera captures exceptionally sharp images. ease of use and the range of zoom is very unique for a point and shoot. My only objection for not making it as part of my gear is that as a point and shoot there is a time lag from the time u want to capture the images and the time it actually captures it. for shooting sports it will not be ok to use. other than that i would loved to have it.

I was very disappointed in this camera as it's a carbon copy of the Lumix DMC-FZ100, or maybe it's the other way around. Both are made in China and are exactly alike in all specifications and even the instruction manual is the same. Only difference is the brand name, and for that you have to pay double! Quality of the photos leaves a lot to be desired specially when using the telephoto and when you shoot at the 600mm level you loose the corners and get very weak colors.
Not what I expected from Leica.

Comments about Leica V-LUX 2 Digital Camera:
I use this product constantly along with other cameras. I bought it for what it was advertised for, a quick all-around camera with useful software from Adobe. What I received in turn was a cheap plastic camera that failed after a few months of service. The camera itself just does not function well. The autofocus gets blocked when the lens is extended (a design flaw) and if you read from others, it has a difficult time focusing when used for telephoto purposes. The mechanics of the lens now has started failing. It's just not a good product. It's a Cadillac Cimarron. The service with Leica is amongst the worst. They're answer to anything is just ship it back, we'll get it back to you in a couple of weeks. The individual I spoke with, while pleasant, did not have a clue concerning this product whatsoever. When I questioned her about it, she indicated that she supported "a lot of products." This is really not the type of service one would expect from Leica's heritage. Gone are the magnesium bodies and excellent finish. This is just a hunk of cheap plastic with a glass lens that is slow and doesn't work well. After owning three Leicas including a rangefinder, this is my last. They should close shop while they still have some resemblance of a reputation.

Comments about Leica V-LUX 2 Digital Camera:
The V-lux 2 is now a part of my usual shooting tools. It's filling in in most pleasantly exciting ways. The 400-600 mm range with 14 megapixels produces results that are just at the limits with other cameras, not this one. Careful handling is required because it's easy to press buttons you didn't intend to press. The ability to fine tune noise reduction, contrast, and sharpness does eliminate steps in work flow. You must shoot a lot of picures before you know how you you want your CMOS sensor to perform. Burst shooting reduces problems with closed eyes and momentary expressions frequently lost. On screen editing from burst mode let's you produce shareable "digital proofs" about 1MP you can pass on. Leica has a winner here

Comments about Leica V-LUX 2 Digital Camera:
I own a V-Lux 1 camera, which I am very satisfied whith, but kept following product innovations not only by Leica, looking for larger wide-angle and telephoto possibilities.I was very happy when Leica decided to launch the V-Lux 2. It had all the resources I was looking for, not to mention the excelent Leica optics and the increased resolution in megapixels. I decided immediately to buy it. I have been using it for almost one month now. Its superb performance, in overall conditions, exceeded my expectations. Pictures come out sharp and clear. This camera is ideal for travel, family photos, nature etc. No need to carry a number of lenses to cover the large zoom range I like to work with.

Shot great from the big apple to the diverse terrains of California. Camera is compact, quickly adaptable to the varying scenes. It's light, captures crisp images and it's features seem to be endless. The lens is sensational since it maintains the 14 megapixels and the full HD 1080i-AVCHD throughout the entire zoom range. Without a doubt, it makes a great gift.

Comments about Leica V-LUX 2 Digital Camera:
I needed an everyday camera (one that I always have with me), and I didn't like the overhead and risk of taking my full frame professional gear everywhere. This camera gives me almost all the same features of the professional gear at a fraction of the size, weight, and cost.
However, it isn't perfect. Battery cost and life are average, too low at best, but only time will tell.

Comments about Leica V-LUX 2 Digital Camera:
The CMOS in this camera delivers unsatisfactory results even at ISO 100 and under ample light i.e. if you look at the RAW image at fine detail it has this irritating 'crunchy' appearance. Images are more noisy in detail but usable up to ISO 400 . ISO 800 and 1600 deliver non-usable (low quality- very noisy) images. Definetly no good for indoor photography. Just a nice all around & travel companion.

Comments about Leica V-LUX 2 Digital Camera:
I own two DSLRs a canon 5D and a canon 5D Mark II. I always like tow have a reliable point and shoot with me for those moments when you can't or don't want to carry the big "girls". Until now I've always had a canon point and shoot. I saw this camera and got carried away by the zoom flexibility 25-600 mm equiv and of course the name "Leica". Boy what a disappointment, this camera has serious focusing and sharpness issues. Noisy images even at the lowest ISO. An insult to the original Leicas.

Comments about Leica V-LUX 2 Digital Camera:
I am a scientist and a photographer (been involved professionally into digital imaging for 30+ years). Let me just make a short calculation. Shortest focal length is 5mm, they say equivalent to 25mm in a film camera, this means sensor size is approx 5mm x 7 mm. Max aperture in wideangle is 2.8, this means aberrations + diffration circle is at least 3.5 microns (or twice as much in telephoto). In a 5x7mm sensor it is only possible to lodge ca. 1500x2000 useful pixels, this means the image resolution can't be better than a 3 Megapix camera (in wideangle). In telephoto use its even worse, quality is equivalent to a 0.8 MPix camera! This is the physical limits, no technology will go beyond physical limits - only sellers can! This is not in the leica spirit!
Quality is good enough for a laptop screen or small prints, and this is OK for 95% of customers, but don't sell it as a 14MP camera pleaaaaaase!

Comments about Leica V-LUX 2 Digital Camera:
I travel considerably and in the past have been saddled with my DSLR with attendant wide angle to telephoto lenses as well as all the other bits and pieces. The resultant photos have been of a quality that is most pleasing but the pain involved in carting it all around has diminished my pleasure considerably.
I have only had this camera for a short time but must say that the DSLR is never going to travel with me again. This camera with its 14 megapixels and excellent zoom capacity has already won me over; it will do most of the things the DSLR did without the weight problem. And, it is instantly available for those shots that would have necessitated a lens change.
This will do me for years.

I received this camera as a gift from my husband.
I have other cameras as well. This is a great camera to take on my many kayaking trips since I don't need to lug extra lenses with me. The small size was an extra selling point, as was the the lens. It allows one to shoot manually or using autofocus which is a great feature.

I am an amateur photo enthusiast and could not be happier with this camera. It has it all, zoom, macro focus, and the best part is that it is all in one camera.
It is light and takes amazing photographs. I have a DLUX 4 as well and I have been using the VLUX2 almost exclusively....since it combines the best of both DSLR and point and shoot. Great buy!

I have the VLux 1 also and it has been such a great camera both here in the US and on my trips to Tanzania Africa that I know the VLux 2 will be even better. I like the ability of the Leica's capacity of 600MM without changing lenses. I have Canon equipment also but this Leica is lightweight and versatile.

This is my fifth Leica starting with the M6, M8, M9 and D-Lux 5. I expect surprises from Leica. Surprising quality, performance and innovation. This little camera does not disappoint. It is nearly the perfect camera to throw in your working or traveling bag and go. I particularly enjoy some small details: the LCD cover, hand grip, 1:1 format, amazing zoom, quick focus, EVF, movie button. Image quality is more than acceptable for this size camera and sensor. Thanks Leica for another elegant camera.

This is a fantastic piece of photo equipment. My 200-500 zoom lens was impossible to work with in comparison. I also had a 60mm macro lens which this camera has replaced. 145mp, does zoom, macro and hd movies. No card ?, it will save to internal

Comments about Leica V-LUX 2 Digital Camera:
I was looking for an outstanding camera to use to photograph two quick-moving grandchildren, and to take on international tours and trips. I did not want to carry the weight of additional lenses, and I have found that being with a tour does not allow time for dealing with them. However, the V-Lux 2 has met my needs beautifully. It's compact and yet contains all the featuress I need, I can do things quickly, and I don't need to carry the additional weight nor lose space to additional lenses. GREAT camera and suits my needs quite well!
