A great advantage of Micro Four Thirds cameras is their small size and weight, but to maintain that advantage, you need small, light lenses. This wide-angle Panasonic Lumix G 14mm F2.5 ASPH Lens (28mm equivalent in 35mm) is about as small and light as you can get in this format--it has a diameter of just 2.19", length of 0.81" (from the tip of the lens to the base side of the lens mount) and it weighs a mere 1.94 oz.
And what a lens! It features 6 elements in 5 groups, including 3 aspherical lenses, a fast f/2.5 maximum aperture, and uses 7 diaphragm blades to form a circular aperture diaphragm. It has an angle of view of 75° and focuses to 7" (18 cm). This lens is compatible with Lumix G Micro Four Thirds cameras.

I planned on getting this lens more specifically for use indoors with lower light scenarios. It is sharp wide open in the central 2/3rds of the lens with softer corners. No surprises there as most fast lenses have this characteristic. Stopped down to f4 provides an essentially sharp frame. This lens isn't sharper than say the kit 14-42 lens which came with my G3 but to get the kit lens as sharp as the Pancake is at f4 stopping down to f8 is necessary, hence the pancakes use as a lower light lens. It is well built and weighs next to nothing. Surprisingly excellent bokeh wide open. Good color and contrast, needs next to no post processing in that area. Focus motor is instant and silent providing good video performance as well. I think many go into primes assuming they will blow away their zooms. Stopped down most competent zooms do a super job. This just does it more wide open and allowing more light in than the zooms. If that is your goal, this should be on your shopping list

This lens is okay - not great and I am not sure how it is earning glowing reviews. The good: it's extremely small, quiet and the color rendition is good. The bad: Chromatic Aberrations are extremely bad and extremely hard to clean up - this is not of course as much of an issue with my GH2 but with my Olympus it is. Purple fringing also there and difficult to eliminate. I find the sharpness okay in the middle, not excellent, and the edges (even stopped down) merely okay. I think the cheap kit lenses do a better job than this lens at 14mm, both the Panasonic and Oly versions, except at f2.5 of course.
...however this lens is exceptionally small and pancakes aren't always used for their image quality. Size matters.
This lens is not in the same league as the Panny 20 1.7 with the exception of size and build quality.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix G 14mm F2.5 ASPH Lens:
The lens produces a really nice image with a pleasing amount of distortion up close. A great companion lens with the 20mm f/1.7, although it's not as fast as the 20mm, it has a nice wide field of view and will work with any filters you have for the 20mm as they use the same filter size. For the price it's a nice lens. My only complaint is that for video use it's almost too small and compact to easily use a follow focus, although there are some brands of friction focuses I have yet to try. Still, I'm glad I have it in my arsenal of Lumix lenses.

Overall, this is an excellent 28mm lens in 35mm equivalents. The image quality is very good in this pancake wonder with a fast f/2.5 aperture. The build quality is also excellent.

Another great prime for the M4/3 format! Wonderful in lower light situations and diverse when bright! Quick AF and a gorgeous bokeh which makes all my shots stand out from the rest!

In the short time I have had the lens I have used in in combination with the Panasonic 20mm f1.7 on my Olympus E-PL2 when I want to be out and about with no bag. The 14 will fit into vitually ANY pocket you have it is so small. There really is no reason not to have it on you, no matter the other lenses you want to take.
There can be some substantial purple fringing if the scene contains contrasty areas. Shooting RAW, it can be controlled in post processing. If you are using a Panasonic body, you may never see it.

great complimentary lens to the panasonic 20mm.
unfortunately it is not as bright as the 20mm 1.7 lens. yet, it is a logical integration to the 20mm lens. i only use prime lenses and am now waiting for a compact and affordable 45mm lens for the m43 format.

i used this lens with my GF-1 which gives me a great small photography tool for doing wonderful street candids. My images are sharp and accurate in color and the low light capabilities really gives this lens a completeness. I don't see any flaws at the moment and I think most panasonic users will be satisfied with this Lens I know I'm certainly am.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix G 14mm F2.5 ASPH Lens:
As a one lens only solution maybe the 28mm equivalent is a bit too wide. I wanted the 20mm F1.8 but for a long time it wasn't available and then the price got too high. The 14mm is a good sharp lens and I added the B+W step-up ring so I can use my 52mm Nikon filters and have consistency with my other two Panasonic lenses. It also doesn't look so flat with the added stuff in front. We are all spoiled by zooms and using a single focal length takes some getting used to. Makes a beautiful setup when mounted on the GF1. I would have checked more boxes below but for some reason my computer wouldn't allow me to.

got this lens as an alternative for my panasonic lumix GF2. this is a very small lens, but the performance with the GF2 at night is not that great compare to the Sony NEx5. i have both camera.
but in the day time, it is a great lens to use!

Comments about Panasonic Lumix G 14mm F2.5 ASPH Lens:
Small and sharp. Really quick AF on an Olympus E-PL2 - I was pleasantly surprised. Goes anywhere. Not "fast" (f 1.7 would be nice) but "fast enough" for indoor use. A joy to use - good color and sharp across the frame at middle apertures, still sharp in the middle wide open. This lens got me into m43.

This lens is tiny. Smaller than my Lumix 20 f1.7. The 14mm (a 28mm on a FF) is easy to handle, and focus. I use this lens on the Olympus E-PL2. The f2.5 aperture is about 3/4s stop faster than the Olympus kit zoom at the same FL. Very sharp. Definitely a must have.
