The Strap Buddy Camera Strap Buddy is a simple way to carry a digital SLR camera body with a longer lens attached. It attaches 1 side of the camera strap to the tripod mounting hole on the bottom of the camera. It changes the camera's orientation rotation and the camera now points down. This orientation lays the camera flat against the side in a comfortable position. The camera buddy keeps the camera close and reduces bouncing or swinging of the camera.

Good idea. Much better way to carry the camera then around the neck hanging in front of you. Would be nice if the monting screw was designed with a tripod mount to avoid having to remove and reattach the strap anchor. To get the camera in a better hanging position I would recommend a third party camera strp as the manufacturers strap is too short to hang from neck and shoulder across you body to get the camera on your hip.

I bought the Camera Strap Buddy because of the image on the front of a camera slung across the chest of a woman.
It may be suitable for a man, but not for me and my figure. It would just hang more awkwardly than when around my neck.
It also didn't look sturdy enough to hold my Mark III with 24-70mm lens. The photo showed a large lens, but when I put it on, it didn't seem strong enough. That, and the poor fit, means I don't recommend it.

Comments about Camera Strap Buddy:
Seems fairly well made and does exactly what it's designed to do, allows the camera to hang at your side rather than straight in front of you. Be aware that the Strap Buddy does occupy the camera's tripod mount, requiring removal to attach a tripod plate.

Comments about Camera Strap Buddy:
It's working as expected. But the issues is that it uses the tripod mount which means you have to take it off when you want to use a tripod.

Lets the camera hang in a much more convenient position, that is, with the lens down rather than out.

Comments about Camera Strap Buddy:
This device did exactly what I expected, AFTER I filed off all of the black anodize on the aluminum thumb screw shoulder. The thumb screw diameter was too large to fit into the outside diameter of the stainless steel strap clip (metal plate). Only after I filed off most of the black anodize on the thumb screw did the strap clip fit over the it. This is a good design and the material quality is good, however, they need to pay a little more attention to quality control.

Comments about Camera Strap Buddy:
After using the blackrapid RS2-Sport on 2 occasions (even ordering it 2 times to make sure I hated it), I gave a chance to the low cost strap buddy.
Less gimicky and more straightforward than the Blackrapid this product lets you use the neckstrap of your choice which is a plus for me as I usually change the strap according to the event. A leather strap for more formal event or a simple cotton strap for the rest of the time.
For some reason it also makes you feel less threatening as a photographer for casual pictures in events even with a 17-55 f2.8 mounted on your camera. As everytime I walked around with a blackrapid people were more self conscious of the potential trigger happy paparazzi-like photographer.
bottom line I would prefer a strap buddy over a BlackRapid. But keep in mind that it dosent't replace the BlackRapid (RS2-sport that I owned) if you intent to climb the Kilimanjaro with a DSLR which has a more secure fit for those kind of activity... although I would rather just simply use a holster for better protection.

I haven't had a chance to use it "in the field" yet, but looking forward to it. Already, I like the feel of carrying the camera on my side vs the front.

I use this with my Canon 7D and it is way more comfortable that the standard strap configuration.
It allows the camera to sit more naturally next to your body when hiking.
Easy to put on and take off.
Only downside is if you use a tripod a lot will be one extra step of removing it in order to attach the tripod.
Great purchase for hikers.

Comments about Camera Strap Buddy:
does what it's meant to do. simple installation. run the strap through and screw it into the bottom where your tripod mount would be. it's so much more comfortable have the camera lay on your side. it also causes less bouncing of your body and ramming your camera into anything around you. such a genius little product. lost mine once and i HAD to get another one. i went crazy without it. this is not ideal for people who rather wear the strap around their neck.

I mainly use this on my GH2 with 14-140 kit lens with stock strap, the camera is comfortable to carry with the lens pointing down. The only downside I see with the product is when you need to use a tripod, one must be careful not to loose the thumb screw, if you loose it then strap buddy will become a scrap buddy :)

Comments about Camera Strap Buddy:
This Camera Strap Buddy is a great and easily used device. It screws into the tripod mount hole unfer the camera usig a standard 1/4-20 thread. After attaching your strap to the Buddy and the usual upper mount the camera can be slung to your side. It is handily ready to be put up to your eye without tangling the straps. It will, however, block the tripod mount. But for walking and shooting it is quite handy.

I use it with a regular camera strap so my camera hangs more downward. It is a little pricey for a piece of metal and a plastic covered thumb screw.

Comments about Camera Strap Buddy:
This product works exactly as stated and in my opinion is a must have for those who are using DSLRs with a larger lens. I never had the need for one until I switched to a D90 with a larger zoom lens. I was finding it awkward moving around with my camera and it was deterring me from taking photographs. I just happened to see someone who had one at a neighbor's home and immediately ordered my own. Like I said this accessory is definitely a great addition to your set up. The only semi-negative I can thing of is that it's kind of confusing to get the strap re-connected correctly but that has nothing to do with the actual product, just something to note.
