The Light Craft 77mm Fader ND Mark II Filter is a remarkable tool to have on hand. With one filter, you can dial in the degree of neutral density that suits your need. No more having to buy multiple ND filters and lugging them around in your gear bag. The cost-effectiveness of this filter is self-evident.
Neutral density filters offer you some exciting possibilities for creating images that would ordinarily not be possible with the proper filtration. For those who enjoy blurred or motion images, this is the filter of choice since it allows you to slow down your exposure and "capture" the motion of flowing water or speeding cars, birds or athletes.
Neutral density filters reduce the amount of light reaching the film. When used with a digital camera, you can effectively see how this filter works. After the initial exposure, you can check your LCD image and then make whatever change in exposure you feel you need to enhance your image. By rotating the ring, you can either increase or decrease the ND effect. This will be especially useful when trying to achieve "blurred" or "panned" shots.
The Fader ND Mark II offers the best image performance with lenses with a focal length of 200mm and below. The image quality may drop when your focal length is above 200mm.
Note! Light Craft cannot predict when vignetting may occur - especially with very wide angle lenses. To avoid vignetting, adjust your focal length, position, and/or composition to remove the vignetting - use your digital camera's display for reference

I use this so that I can run nearly wide open aperture on prime lenses in bright light and still keep a low shutter speed with proper exposure. This gives you the "film look" as well as the ability to take really cool long exposure photos.
Love the quality of it, adjustment ring is very smooth and stops of adjustment are marked precisely. Used step down rings to make it work for all my lenses, 77mm being the largest filter diameter that any of my lenses uses. Observed minimal effects to image quality in terms of sharpness, color cast, and exposure uniformity, especially in video.
I basically carry this with me whenever there is a chance I will want to take gorgeous video. Sometimes take it out for photography, but mostly in the event of landscape photography, water photograpy, timelapse, long exposure photography, etc.
Interestingly it can be used in the studio to use strobes on subjects but still shoot wide open to get a shallow depth of field.

I have receive it for few days and I want to share my feeling about this product.
Good:
1.
Price is ok
2.
Come with a lens cap... (I don't know why they do that because I can use the original lens cap... because I'm sure both filter glasses is the same size......
Bad:
1.
The ring which lock the filter glass is loosen when it arrived (both 58mm and 77mm)........which all the marker is useless now.
2.
Quality is not as good as they mention.
I have visit their website and it show a photo shoot by 200mm which is nearly as good as with the fader. But both by 58mm and 77mm is 100% not as good as they mention. I can only rate the quality of image is "just acceptable"
3.
The case looks quite nice.
Note: 77mm in my 200mm is quite foggy. 58mm seem better....
I test it with Canon 70-200 f2.8 IS USM + EOS 5D MKII with Manfrotto heavy duty tripod + shutter release + resolution chat
3.
Clipping with my 17-40 f/4 lens (at 17mm to nearly 21mm)
4.
Quite hard to rotate the fader.....
Conclusion:
I do have a Genus ND fader too. Seem Genus one get better result no matter the photo quality or metal casing.
Also the Genus Fader I got the front glasses really use a bigger size glass which I haven't have any clipping issue with Genus.
Overall result is fair.
But for the price I pay...I rather choose Genus than Light Craft.
Hope this information can help you to make your decision

I use this to shoot video on my hacked GH2. Love not having to deal w/ numerous filters, just turn the wheel to adjust ND. Image quality from cam w/ filter on is excellent. Highly recommended.

Comments about Light Craft 77mm Fader ND Mark II Filter:
I read many reviews and expected the product to work well. It does. My concern was that it would vignette when used with an 11-16mm wide-angle lens. It doesn't! At least not on the T2i.
The lens end is 77mm, but the front end is 82mm, which also helps with vignetting. And it comes with an 82mm plastic lens cap, which feels slightly cheap-o but does the job.
This is a must-have piece of gear for shooting DSLR video outdoors. It works very well!

this mark ii fader nd and a genus fader nd were my first experiences with these devices and the mark ii has been a bit of a disappointment. i'm not fluent enough with optics to know how much the focal length of my lens - 11-17mm zoom - is to blame for the poor performance, but vignetting greatly reduces the usable range of this filter for me. it seems also degrade, not just darken, the image i get when recording video with my 7d. newcomers should beware that you'll need a larger lens cap when using these nd filters and if you get the lightcraft you'll need to buy one yourself; lightcraft provides the lousiest joke of a lens cap imaginable. in sum, it appears you get what you pay for in nd faders, which is sad because [$]- isn't pocket change for most of us.

I used this ND fader filter on my UWA lens for long exposure shots @ the beach. And it worked great, but not @ the full 8 stop setting. @ full power you get a large "X" pattern that forms from uneven exposure. Now if u go at say 6 stops its perfect. Nice even effect. Another nice feature is the fact that it is a 82mm front element so on a UWA lens you dont have to crop out the filter edges. If ur looking to go 30+ sec exposures u should prolly get the the MKII (9-12) stop filter by light craft instead.

Comments about Light Craft 77mm Fader ND Mark II Filter:
I use this to control the amount light entering the camera and the biggest advantage is that one can set it at low density and focus then change the density without losing focus. Gone are my days of needing to remove my filters for focusing purposes.
One of the drawback is that it is not really usable at max setting in certain conditions.

Comments about Light Craft 77mm Fader ND Mark II Filter:
The construction is very good; solid mechanical build and smooth rotation. However, when set at maximum density with wide angle lenses, the ND effect is not even across the image. The instructions included with the filter mention that, and it would have been nice to include that tidbit of information in the product description. With my 24-105 lens and 5DII, the effect is very visible at 24, 35, and 50mm settings. I stopped testing after that. It may be suitable for an APS-C body since the adverse effect is on the edges, but is unsuitable for WA lenses on a full frame body. I don't know if this is an issue with all variable ND filters, or just this manufacturer.

Hello i'm a videographer en working with the Canon 5D.
first this product works really well !!
but the price is to high i think.
NOTE: if you buy a other ND filter for your 5d Lens, you need to know that the glass of the ND filter need to be the same as your lens. Much ND filters are cheap but the glass is not good.

Comments about Light Craft 77mm Fader ND Mark II Filter:
I like shooting outdoors with a flash as the dominant light source. Faders of this kind help reduce natural light input into camera to be able to use the appropriate shutter speed to allow just the right quantity of ambient light versus flash power.
So if you like to have a more dominant flash presence in the shot versus ambient light, this fader gives you good options. I hesitated buying the more and most expensive brand because I can buy a prime lens at that price. With this Light Craft fader, I get the same effect at a very affordable price. Quality looks good.

This ND is unusable for me. I'm very disappointed with how soft this filter is. You cannot obtain a sharp focus with this filter. It turns images/video from very nice Canon L glass into mud. I can't recommend this for video and definitely not stills. Good luck if you buy this.

I use this on my Canon lenses for video work. It's very useful for controlling depth of field independent of the intensity of the available light.
I compared this to the competing 77mm Genus Fader filter and found this to be superior. It's lighter, thinner, and I didn't see any of the chromatic aberrations from light sources that I found with the Genus filter. (I think the Genus filter may have been a bad copy, though). Both filters produce flare, though.

Comments about Light Craft 77mm Fader ND Mark II Filter:
Incredible product considering the price. Light Craft's Fader ND definitely beats buying multiple ND filters. The only think I would say would be to definitely go for a size above your largest lens and then use step-up rings. It's also worth getting a rubber lens hood to protect the filter and prevent excess lens flare.
This is a must have for anyone shooting video with a DSLR.

This accessories is a must for DSLR video work. It allows you to control your exposure in daylight leaving your aperture at convenient speeds (1/50th 1/60th). Only drawback I noticed is a slight color cast but its barely noticeable.
