The Canon VIXIA HF M41 Flash Memory Camcorder is a 1920 x 1080 high def cam with 32GB of internal memory. In addition to the built-in memory, the HF M41 also boasts 2 SD/SDHC/SDXC memory card slots. With this much space it's possible to record up to 2TB of files to memory cards alone.
Whether you record to the internal memory or removable cards, the camera's 1/3" CMOS sensor and Canon's DIGIC DV III image processor work together to provide stunningly detailed, life-like images that look great on your HDTV. Of course, these two don't work alone; the HF M41 also employs a Genuine Canon 10x HD Video Lens, optical image stabilization, a 0.24" color viewfinder, and a 3.0" touch panel LCD, among other necessities. Designed with advanced use in mind, the camcorder also features headphone and microphone terminals. These connections make it possible to capture high quality audio to go along with your movies. In addition to using an external mic for audio, the HF M41 also features an enhanced internal microphone. You'll have the choice of 4 different recording directions, including monaural, stereo, wide, and synced with zoom. This feature also allows for adjustment between low, mid-range, and high frequencies. For those times when you feel like letting the camera do the work, the HF M41 has a number of user-friendly shooting controls that make for uncomplicated shooting. Face detection, Instant AF, Smart Auto, and a bevy of others all take the guess work out of recording, allowing you to focus on enjoying the moment instead of worrying about settings. Other important features of the HF M41 include Photo Grab, for taking still images from already shot video, 24p and 30p frame modes for cinematic and Internet-friendly videos, along with Cinema-Look filters. A number of other options give you the tools necessary for capturing memories that will last a lifetime. You'll also have the flexibility of copying video from your VIXIA HF M41's internal drive to the removable SD memory cards. That makes it easy to insert the card into your computer or HDTV's card reader and view your recorded footage immediately
The advantages of flash memory go beyond the added recording time. You'll also appreciate the quick response time, because there are no moving parts in the recording process. Press the record button and your VIXIA HF M41 starts recording video faster than you've ever seen before. In addition, when you review, you'll have quick access to your footage
Since the effective number of pixels of HD CMOS Pro is equal to 1920 x 1080 (2.07MP), resizing is eliminated, allowing Full HD video to be captured and recorded with professional precision
Because each individual pixel is larger and more sensitive, each is capable of capturing more light, allowing high quality video to be achieved even in dimly lit conditions. The sensitivity of HD CMOS Pro is approximately 25% better than the HD CMOS sensor in the 2010 VIXIA HF S series
Using the wide dynamic range, a larger pixel area also allows more light to be stored, resulting in 280% improvement in dynamic range for exceptional reproduction of both highlights and shadows. Skin tones are captured in a finer gradation, and stable gamma and Auto Exposure control is also achieved resulting in a more 'lifelike' image
To further enhance focusing capability, the VIXIA HF M41 also features Focus Assist. This helps in capturing your subject in razor-sharp focus. It works by providing a 2x magnification of your subject, which is automatically cancelled when you start recording. This is a feature normally found in professional broadcast-quality cameras
You'll also be able to use the Touch Panel for Touch Decoration. This feature lets you superimpose select decorations onto the images on your LCD and then records the images complete with the additions. You may add animation effects, hand written and stamp messages or insert a still image to give your video a truly individual look.
For your convenience, the VIXIA HF M41 is also equipped with a viewfinder for use in shooting when very bright outdoor light conditions may make it difficult to see the LCD display
Touch Focus allows the user to pinpoint a specific area to focus on. This function is similar to the Push AF feature found in professional camcorders, but can target a subject anywhere in the frame.
Touch Exposure enables exposure to be locked or compensated for the area touched by the user
The system is in fact so smart that it will recognize faces turned downwards or sideways. In addition, a specific face may be selected as the main subject for continuous tracking. This feature can be used to search for clips featuring that specific subject's face. In search and playback, use of the Face Index will display frames with the chosen face as a thumbnail in each shot in which it appears. The selected face can be linked as a timeline to further identify footage containing that subject
You would normally have to look to professional video cameras in order to have a sophisticated tool like 30p Progressive Mode at your command. In addition to the standard interlaced video frame rate of 60i, you may choose to set the VIXIA HF M41 to capture video in 30p, (30 progressive frames, recorded at 60i) which is particularly useful for footage to be used on the Internet. Excellent for action and sports shots, this setting gives enhanced quality to still images captured after recording
Through a menu selection, 1080i video is converted to 1080p and can be output through the camcorder's HDMI terminal. The 1080p output offers smooth reproduction of fast action, such as sports.
The Mini Advanced Accessory Shoe allows you to attach optional Canon accessories, such as the VL-5 video light, DM-100 directional stereo microphone, RA-V1 remote control adapter, or SM-V1 5.1 channel surround microphone.
The built-in microphone terminal with manual audio level control and the headphone terminal provide exceptional audio flexibility.
Canon's new optional WM-V1 wireless microphone allows you to record high-quality audio without a hard connection from up to 164 feet away (50m). This feature is, ideal for wedding or graduation ceremonies, documenting meetings and recitals
In addition, the frequency response characteristics of the microphone can be adjusted between low, mid-range and high frequencies.
The built-in microphone terminal with manual audio level control and the headphone terminal provide exceptional audio flexibility.
Canon's new optional WM-V1 wireless microphone allows you to record high-quality audio without wires from up to 164 feet away (50m), ideal for ceremonies and recitals.
For the ultimate home theater experience, 5.1 channel surround sound allows you to capture audio quality that matches the stunning realism of your high definition video. The sound is captured from all directions (five different pickup sensors) so your home movies will look and sound more lifelike than ever before.

I just received this camera, and so far it has been what I was hoping for in my first video camera. I bought it primarily for the arrival of my first child coming in 2 months, and I think it will be really good for family videos. The video quality is really good, and the low-light performance is better than most of the cameras I have seen in this price range.
The M41's design is really sleek, and it fits well in your hands. I looked into buying the Canon S21, or the new S30, but when I tried one out in the store, it was really bulky and plastic feeling. This camera has a more slid feel to it, but not too large.
I have been trying out comparing Auto mode of this camera versus Manual mode. I have been recording at maximum (MXP - 24 Mbps) quality, and everything looks good. I don't know much about editing the files yet, but I have currently been using iMovie 11, and when I import the default .MTS file into iMovie, it converts it to a Quicktime interchangeable format that balloons the file size. I recorded a short 35 second clip yesterday that ended up being 105 MB, but when I brought it into iMovie, the source file was right under 500 MB!
Overall, I have been very pleased so far with the camera. But, it is still new, and I am still new to HD video cameras. My two main complaints for this camera are that, one, the video flip-out screen is not as high-quality as I would like, and two, the touch-screen is not as responsive as I would like. The main video screen is not 920K pixels like a lot of higher-end cameras, so it doesn't look as detailed, though it is only a minor complaint. As other reviews have stated, the menu system is the same from last year, and though I don't mind it all that much, the touch screen does not feel overly responsive. In the day and age of quick and responsive touch-screen smartphones, this feels a little strange.
I would, however, buy this camera again!

Excellent low light video. Fast focus and powered IS. 50% or more telephoto shows significant and distracting vignetting if a blue sky is in the video. Canon service indicates "performing normal"...hmmm. Also, LCD touch screen is annoying and not nearly as responsive as a smart phone..miss the toggle button on my R10. Touch to track focus and exposure are excellent, but the touch screen is tedious for everything else. Also, the screen is very shiny and hard to see in bright light. Minor issues..includes a 1/2 size battery leaving a hole in the back of the camera. In-depth manual (really needed) is only the CD. No wide angle without using a heavy, bulky lens adapter. A few changes would have made this model into a great camera.

Comments about Canon VIXIA HF M41 Flash Memory Camcorder:
This camcorder is great in low lighting, the sound quality is very good. WE could hear several conversations taking place while recording!!!
The battery lasted the entire time we opened Christmas presents and filmed during the larger family gathering in the afternoon and the battery still wasn't dead. I was actually quite surprised,I thought I was going to have to buy a back up battery but I don't think I will. The only drawback so far is that the zoom is only 10x and some others have more. The picture quality was quite satisfactory. The 32GB of internal memory is double what the panasonic had that I was looking at. I have bought a 16GB external card to store video when we are travelling just in case the 32 GB isn't enough when we are travelling.
I can't wait to try it out on our next couple of trips (Mexico and Costa Rica)
What a difference between the size of this one and the one one we had about 10 years ago. The canon is easier to carry and quite light. To top it off the price was right for our family budget.

Did a lot of shopping for this camera and got a great price at B&H. Camcorder fits well in the hand. The touch screen does take a little bit to get used too. Has a lot of great options and I'm looking forward to using it.

This is a really nice camcorder. I took it with me on my trip to Yellowstone National Park during the winter and it did everything I asked of it. It worked well at temperatures below zero. We had two morning in the -20 range. The quality of still images was great also. If I had recommend anything it would be better zoom capability.

Comments about Canon VIXIA HF M41 Flash Memory Camcorder:
I bought it mainly to use indoors and low light performance needed to be good. This camcorder is very good in low light.
However, quickly found that this is not made for indoors unless you have a huge room. The widest lens is not wide enough for indoors unless used with external wide angle adapter.
Also, found that 10x zoom is not enough in some outdoor situations.
Low light is excellent and I've read that some users liked it so much they bought wide angle lens to use indoors and close distance.
It's great camcorder if you can live with it's limitations or buy additional accessories depending upon shooting situations.

Comments about Canon VIXIA HF M41 Flash Memory Camcorder:
This camera is amazing. My previous camcorder was a Hi-8 camcorder so this is quite a step up from what I was using before. The price was great [$] after an instant manufacturer rebate. You can't beat that for an HD camcorder with 32GB of built in memory. The construction is a little flimsy with the plastic body but I just adjusted my case to make it fit snug so it should be o.k.

Comments about Canon VIXIA HF M41 Flash Memory Camcorder:
We love the camera. Video is rich and color-accurate, battery life is plenty (although we did purchase a high-capacity 2nd battery), and the unit is relatively easy to use. We purchased the M41 model for the EVF... the screen works fine in most lighting situations, but in bright sun, particularly in snow conditions, having the EVF is a huge benefit.

Comments about Canon VIXIA HF M41 Flash Memory Camcorder:
If you've ever used a camcorder or camera without a viewfinder, you know how important a feature one is...unless you never shoot in bright sun. There's nothing more frustrating than having to "guess" what you are shooting. The M41 also has great low-light performance, and it's small and compact. It's even capable of 5.1 audio, although you have to buy a $200+ Canon microphone to enable it.
All in all, the only con I know of is that the HD is not 1080p, it's 1080i. Picture and color are beautiful nonetheless.
Certainly, the best HD buy on the market...to improve on it, you would have to spend another $500-600.
And...BH has the best price anywhere!

Comments about Canon VIXIA HF M41 Flash Memory Camcorder:
Canon used a large pixel full HD sensor in they camcorder series and the low-light footage is better than the rest as a result. The dynamic range is also better than similarly priced camcorders- which is very important.
It's only drawbacks are it's use of touch-screen which isn't as good as Sony's implementation- it's sensitivity is off when using fingers but very good when using a soft pointed object. It also features a very small capacity battery pack- I suggest picking up a spare or higher capacity battery. It also features membrane type buttons which are not tactile in feel and feel like a cheap way of adding buttons. It only has a 10X zoom- because the glass is of high quality- so keep this in mind.
This camcorder is constantly receiving high praise in reviews because of the HD Cmos Pro sensor which is similar to the MUCH more expensive Pro models Canon has out---- this is a sleeper camcorder- simply the best in it's class and at twice the cost would still be great!

-I use this device to transmit my church services on-line thru the internet.
-The image quality i great, zoom is ok and it is very easy to use that to transmit your event thru the internet as well as teradek cubes.
- The only single point that I did not like was about the battery that comes with the camera. I thought it was more efficient, have greater mean duration when in use.

I use this camcorder mostly for home movies. Picture quality is amazing even in low light. Easy to use and HDMI plugin options plugs right into my HDTV. Remote feature is great allows me to operate the playback from my couch. I would highly recommend this product to anyone interested on purchasing a camcorder for home. This camcorder already had 32 GB built in and also has options to install 2 more SDHC cards. Please get the extended warranty which is better than the manufactures warranty.
