I bought the FINEPIX XP30 based on several reviews that wrote about it being an all-round impressive performer.
The camera was to give me extra flexibility from the camera phone I was currently using, unfortunately while the camera may have many features hidden within it's menus and is waterproof, I'm sad to say that the picture quality is no better than, if not worse than my camera phone (Nokia N8 12 megapixel)
Some of the more dissapointing aspects of the camera is it's general over exposure of images and inability to shoot in low or even medium light, I have not found a way to improve this after tinkering with all the settings.
So until I manage to chuck the camera in a bucket of water to take some photos, I think I just wasted my money :(

Even with the camera mostly turned off - fewer than 20 images taken over two days, a fully charged battery will completely discharge. I tried both the included battery and the extra I purchased with the camera. I've ordered a high capacity replacement, but feel that shouldn't be necessary since the product information suggests that the battery should last for 200 images.

Bought this camera for its ability to go underwater and to take into conditions I would not want to subject my SLR. Used in Maui while snorkeling and it did well.
Pros: All the functions you have out of water and available in the water. Settings are easy to change in the water. Lots of modes to choose from for just the right situation. The in-camera panorama mode is fantastic. HD Video worked very well in the water.
Cons: Screen is hard to see in the water, making it a challenge to focus at times. The flash is useful when within a couple feet, but not any more. Could use a more focused or higher powered flash for use in water. You can hear the camera zoom in the video.
This isn't a camera that is super in the water or out of the water, but does fine as a compromise between them.

I am an avid hiker and take the XP30 along each time I go out on the trail. It fit's nicely into the cargo compartment of my pack or my pant pocket. It's very easy to use and has excellent picture quality for a compact point and shoot. I like that the XP30 is water proof because I spend a lot of time exploring the rivers in my region and swimming.
The GPS function on the XP30 is handy providing location information for each picture taken and can be used as waypoints. The one drawback of the GPS function is that it shortens the battery life considerably, so an extra battery pack, or even two is essential if you are planing on using the GPS feature full time.
The menu on the XP30 is easy to use and understand. The camera gives you a wide variety of shooting mode's to chose from. I like to use the program AE setting because it gives the user the option to change the shutter speed and chose ISO between 100/ 3200. I just wish Fuji would have given the option to change the f stop.
Over all I give the Fuji XP30 high marks. An 8 on a 10 scale. It's avery good compact camera for the adventure sport enthusiast. I will recommend the XP30 to my friends.

Purchased product as a gift to accommodate a more active lifestyle. He already owns a much larger SLR which can be cumbersome when we're performing higher level activities such as zip-lining, or even on the beach. Also, he's in the army, so the waterproof/shockproof/freeze-proof/dust-proof features are VERY important come deployment time.

I bought this camera for a vacation on Disney, as a waterproof camera it works quite well despite the Fuji menu's ergonomics are unexistant, but once you make the configuration do what you want and not what the camera wants is okay.
Compared against other pocket cameras (Canons) is just okay. The colors are sometimes a bit dull.
What is worst is the GPS, it looks like its only function is to draw battery, and it does it quite well. Yeah, it will SOMETIMES geotag your photos, but most of the time where you are not, because the thing spends literally 10s of minutes to get a fix.
So I ended turning of the GPS that was the strongest argument of sale to me. Very dissapointing. You can buy a non-GPS camera for 100 less.

Good owner's manual, good features and controls, good picures. But, hunts endlessly for satellites draining the battery. Ended up just shutting the function off.
