The Canon Powershot A1200 Digital Camera (Silver) is a powerful combination of great image quality and easy-to-use creative features. High resolution of 12.1 megapixels, a 4x 28-112mm (35mm equivalent) wide-angle zoom lens, plus a 2.7" LCD monitor for composing and viewing photos and video put this camera in a class by itself. In addition to the LCD monitor, the A1200 has a genuine optical viewfinder, the traditional, preferred method of composing photographs for many professional photographers.
Gorgeous 720p HD video is built-in and easy to use. Sensitivity up to 1600 ISO and a Low Light mode will make blurry pictures a thing of the past. No fuss, no muss Smart Auto mode programs the optimal settings for 32 common shooting situations, and Creative Filters make creativity easy with Fisheye, Miniature, Toy Camera, Monochrome, Super Vivid and Poster effects for more high-impact images. A Discreet Mode disables the sound, flash and AF beam to let you take photos in quiet areas without disturbing anyone. And all of this is powered by easy-to-find 2x AA batteries.

It's so nice to be able to see what you are shooting in bright sunlight. Everyone I show it to loves the fact that it also has an optical viewfinder. The manufacturers should realize this and offer more models with both. The photos are fine, but I prefer the old A1000 which had the shutter and zoom control at the top right corner. The A1200 has the settings knob at the top right and you have to reach over that to the left for the shutter and zoom - a bit ackward. And of course the ability to use AA bateries comes in very handy.

I'm a professional photographer and people always ask me what camera they should buy. I always point them to B&H.
I purchased two of the Canon Powershot A1200s for Xmas presents for friends this year.
Having spoken to my friend and neighbor about the camera... she stated that the camera only gets about 20 - 30 shots per set of batteries. I found that hard to believe so offered her a new set of batteries from my own stash and it still only took about 30 pix on those batteries.
Photo's are great. Ease of use great. The only point and shoot with a viewfinder... but battery use is unacceptable

Gets crisp landscape and interior shots. The viewfinder is a great feature, one becoming hard to find on new model cameras. It's small enought to fit in a shirt pocket, yet has some heft to it that I find desirable.

Comments about Canon Powershot A1200 Digital Camera (Silver):
I was looking for a good digital camera with a viewfinder. This one had the viewfinder and good reviews, so I purchased it. It takes good pictures - when you find the right setting for the lighting conditions. But that is rather difficult. Night shots are the most trying. Battery life is good.

I use the camera to document the general condition of building systems from roofs to basements and much in between.
It's been reliable and has taken some drops and still functions. The battery cover doesn't take well to being dropped so it's best not to drop it at all.

Just run of the mill pictures of my life. Nothing professional. I wanted one with a viewfinder after having a S50 for years. Nice easy to use little camera. I don't like the new version of Canon's Zoombrowser that came with it, however. The old one was simpler and much quicker. But the camera is great.

Has a viewfinder as well as a rear LCD screen which makes taking a picture outside easier. Also uses regular AA batteries so it is easy to keep an extra pair of batteries available.Which is a good thing as it goes through the"bargin" batteries quickly if you use the flash continuously and the zoom feature frequently.

I use a camera daily in my residentiala real estate appraisal assignments. I take photos inside and out and hated the flat screen camera with no view finder that I have used in the past because there was always a reflection on the screen when I was outside and I could not see what I was taking a photo of half the time. This new camera has the flat screen on the back, but also a view finder I can peek into so there is no reflection. Also, because it uses standard AA batteries I didn't have to spend $40 on a second camera battery to have as a back-up. I use rechargeable standard batteries and I can buy AA batteries anywhere if necessary. The size of my new camera is a little bigger than my old Canon PowerShot1300 ELPH, but the new camera fits into my pocket just fine. Photo quality is good. Also, this has a good zoom. Some cameras have optical zoom and digital zoom and some have only one of these (sorry, I'm not a camera expert and can't remember which is which), but I like the zoom on this new one. Several other models in this price range had limited zoom.

The only digital camera I've ever owned is a Canon PowerShot A530, but I wanted a lighter weight, slimmer camera with a larger LCD screen and found it in the Canon PowerShot A1200. I would never have a point-and-shoot that doesn't have a viewfinder as well and the A1200 has a large LCD screen and a viewfinder. I only just started shooting with it, but I'm enjoying playing with the fisheye option. Can't wait to read the manual and learn more! Best of all, this camera was affordable!!

With seven grandchildren close by, I am never without my camera. The ease of using the camera is seen with the setting dial and the placement of the zoom button make this a joy to use. I am very happy with all aspects of the camera.

I don't use it, my 6 year old daughter does. She wanted a "real" camera for quite a while now, and I was looking for something simple for her, with a few bells and whistles for later... this is perfect, great size, really nice quality images and the big plus is that it runs a a pair of AA's. No special charger or battery required, and that battery compartment gives the one side of the body a little bulge to make it easier to hold. And there's a tiny optical viewfinder too! How awesome is that. The rear LCD is a bit grainy, but not the images... This was a great buy at a great price.

I use this for travels and everything else. I like the large screen and size. I had another Canon PowerShot before it and it's very similar. Easy to use and thank you, Canon, for using the same battery. Now I have a battery backup.
Only thing I would have liked is if it had been a lighter weight, but it's not that important.

Comments about Canon Powershot A1200 Digital Camera (Silver):
Bought this camera primarily for family (grandkids) photos. While it takes very good pictures and has a large, bright (except in sunlight) LCD screen, to me its most valuable feature is the optical viewfinder. If I have to put on my reading glasses (I'm 65) in order to clearly see an image on the screen, I won't use the camera. It's second most valuable feature to me is that it's much smaller and lighter than my Nikon D200 + 28-70mm zoom lens + flash.
