This mic is very easy to set up and has fantastic sound quality. I have tested it up to about 50 meters without issues, although the sound tends to break up if walls or large obstacles are between the receiver and transmitter.
Because of it's rather large size, it can't really be used as a replacement for a lapel mic unless you can figure out how to keep it out of shot.
In summary, it's a fantastic mic depending on what you need to use it for.

I ordered this system to use to shoot short interviews, but the mic transmitter is actually the mic. There's no external, wired mic element. So you have this inch and a half tube intruding into your shot from the lapel of your subject. Way unprofessional. No real way to hide this mic. Not sure of any other real reason to have this mic other than to record Natural sounds, and there are better solutions for that.

Comments about Canon WM-V1 Wireless Microphone:
I found a very unusual application for this product: I used this set of microphones to help a VIP in a conference to understand other people who did not speak his language instead of whispering into his ear and distracting others. I was several meters away from him and other people, and he was following the meeting very well. No one know that he needed help. This produced a wow effect feedback. I would like to suggest Canon to connect up to ten receivers to one microphone, then I would be able to service a group of people by providing simultaneous interpretation service to them. I looked for something similar, but other options either produced terrible sound or were not user friendly, or were big or too expensive. This was a perfect investment!

Comments about Canon WM-V1 Wireless Microphone:
These are great wireless mics to own if you're doing a water shoot and you are worried about dropping them in a lake. Lose a good wireless mic to a watery grave and you're crying. These...not so much.
Cancellation abounds. However, in an interview setting the sound is good. But no lapel work. Canon...and their mics are the size of a Canon. What were these guys thinking? They weren't.
It's the only Canon product I've ever bought that I haven't loved.

Comments about Canon WM-V1 Wireless Microphone:
I use them primarily for recording our church service. It does exactly what I need them to do. Our pastor like to sometimes bang his hands on his chest and forgets that the microphone is there. I used the windscreen that came with the microphone and it shelters them more than I thought it would. From past experiences you would normally hear the pop as hist hands hit the mocrophone...but these microphones with the winscreen only produced a subtle thud. Very good buy for our needs and usage.

Comments about Canon WM-V1 Wireless Microphone:
This little wireless microphone does it's job! I am a teacher and am using it to make training videos, and this mic allows me hands free operation with great sound quality. I wish the mic unit was a little smaller, but it really isn't too bad to wear clipped to my shirt. The range between the mic and the receiver is more than I need, and a wall between me and the receiver does not interfere. So far battery life has been acceptable. The WM-V1 is an economical way to get a wireless microphone on my Canon video camera. This is the only wireless mic I have ever used, but I do not feel the burning desire to replace it. I am a happy customer, and would recommend it to a friend.

Comments about Canon WM-V1 Wireless Microphone:
My first thought when opening the box, "What were they thinking?" I'm a Canon loyalist, so maybe they have a few nut cases running their audio engineering facility. At at level to match the G10 I bought, shame on Canon for passing of this pig sty for a wireless mic. Any pro's or semi-pro's thinking about it...don't. Canon...it's the same size as the mic they sold me.
However, I gave it three stars because I couldn't give two and a half and it was better than a two. I read the other reviews and they were absolutely correct. And, it provided a few things the other wireless mic systems didn't. As a loyalist I was comforted by the name. As a pro, the audio you get is good. As an Engineer? Maybe you need to fire the ones you have and hire me. You were one step away from having a really good product. A product I would have given 5 stars. But..that mistake...was big. It made a good product not so good.
My first reaction was to send it back. However, I think I'll keep it cause I have a water shoot. If it falls in a river I won't feel too bad.

Comments about Canon WM-V1 Wireless Microphone:
I've made several recordings by connecting the WM-V1 to a Canon EOS 550D and does a good job even several feet away.
I tried to use it as a lapel but it is too big and if you try to hide it takes too much noise. It would be great if it had an audio input to connect a second microphone.
If the camera does not show the sound level is necessary to do some testing before recording to avoid surprises. And if you're dense watch not to connect the mic to the camera instead of the receiver!.

I purchased this microphone combo with a Canon Camcoder and the combination works well together. Being able to move the camcoder independently of a local microphone is a huge advantage in many situations. I think it was worth the cost, though you can purchase a quality microphone for the same price. I used it for several hours before the batteries gave up but I missed the blue light and so messed up a take. Maybe an additional audio warning of imminent battery failure would be more helpful.

I used this product with the mic on the desk while interviewing a subject. The sound is better than if it was on the lapel. Sound is not too powerful, echo-y. The sound was just right.

We use these mics mostly outdoors. They are great and easy to use. I love the wireless set up it makes for a quick and easy setup. Not one bad thing i can think of other than the mic is sort of hard to conceal. what i ended up doing was attaching fishing line to the mic. This way we are able to wear the mic like a necklace and keep it right below the collar of our shirts. I highly recommend this product and purchasing this product from B&H, they handle business like they should!

Giving 3 stars, because 2.5 isn't available. The 2-way communication is great. As a on location communication device perfect. I agree that a mic plug in for a more discreet use in an interview situation is a much. The lanyard idea is a creative solution, though not ideal. Seems like Cannon could have done better.
Comments about Canon WM-V1 Wireless Microphone:
Considering the newness of this mic, there are no reviews of it. My only concern for this item was that it was way too big for professional interviews. It would really stand out. This Item would be perfect if it came with an external (smaller) mic input on the transmitter.

I use this for street interviews and group discussions. In place of a mic-in-the-face, I made an invisible lanyard for the mic using a clear nylon string. It dangles just under the frame of a bust shot. For group discussions, I clip it the end of an old TV antenna and boom it over the head of the talents.
