I have had this camera for about a month now and I absolutely love it. The video quality is amazing and doesn't skip when panning on fast moving objects. I specifically have taken many videos of surfers and some waterfalls and would put the Lumix's video quality against most video cameras. Love the megazoom and the fact that you can zoom while in video mode. I have not been able to hear the zoom in the videos as some reviews will say, although I have always been outdoors when recording. Photo quality is fantastic about 87% of the time. I'm no expert photographer so there are probably tons of things I could do to make the picture perfect every time but occasionally, there is a little noise, especially while using megazoom and in lower light conditions. My only complaint is the amount of options the camera has that can seriously affect the picture. It becomes difficult to capture a moment when you need to take two or three to change a lot of menu options in order to guarantee a great pic. There are so many different modes and choices, it almost becomes frustrating when you just want to pull out the camera and snap a pic. The intelligent auto feature works pretty well, changing the mode to the correct setting(portrait, scenery, etc.)correctly, a majority of the time. The GPS feature, I would say works less of the time rather than most and I haven't played around with the 3D feature yet, as I do not have a 3D TV. Overall, it's a fantastic camera, and I'm extremely happy with my choice over the Nikon S9100. I would say one of the major deciding factors in my choice between the two, is the comfort of the camera. Nikon has a manual pop up flash and has the rotating dial where the capture button should be. Definitely a compact camera for an intermediate to advanced photographer with all of the choices and settings but interface is easy to use and self explanatory. Make sure to get a Class 6 memory card if you purchase this camera or the Nikon S9100 in order to view the videos in HD and use some other features.

Outdoor photos were great, however you cannot force the flash in auto modes so you would sometimes get dark subjects as it did not always adjust for backlighting. Inside photos of people almost always had extremely red eyes. Even in red eye reduction scene selection. Had to return it for this reason as I was going to be using it mostly for indoor pictures.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS10 Digital Camera (Black):
We had a Nikon S550 for years, but the battery housing literally fell apart. We tried a new Nikon s6200 - awful pictures & cheezy overall housing - made in China. The Panasonic DMC-ZS10 is the answer to everything we need for our business photography, e.g. accurate colors, strong resolution, awesome closeups and more! For taking pictures of nature - we have a backyard full of animals, it's incredible! Powerful zoom and the HD movie feature is not to be beat! Also, easy to learn and the price was unparalleled to the Nikon said equivalent. Oh, and our Panasonic Lumix was made in Japan!! Looks like high end Japanese technology, feels like it, and takes exceptional pictures - so what's not to like...a lot?

My second ZS and use it alongside a Canon EOS 5D MarkII.Canon just doesn't fit in my pocket.Use in auto mode set it at high pixels for starters, you cant get a bad shot unless you pick poor subjects. At ISO 1600 yup grainy even poor shots compared to Canon 1D, or 5D but @[$]bucks vs $7K ?Anyone complaining about this camera should re read th manual or get a higher priced camera.Cummon it's 330 BUCKS!I dropped my then 2 year old ZS3 I had kept my packging shattered the viewscreen US waranty Panasonic replaced it NO DISCUSSION I was Amazed! In short it's fun with good quality pics. Fun in clubs at the bar a party and on overseas vacations even an African Safari!Note: my Canon f2.8 400mm Lens did a little better in Africa.Take the ZS10 to Cranival in Brazil you won't regret it.

Panasonic's lumix line are great little cameras. This is my second one. I bought the DMC-TZ3 many years ago as was going on vacation and just wanted something small that fit into my pocket. It has become one of the most use cameras in my collection. I work as a semi-pro and use canon D60 and rebel T2i, but when it comes to compact I pull out my lumix. recent it was time to up grade to the DMC-ZS10 with higher resolution at 14.1MP and the optical zoom 16x. This is also an upgrade on recording, previous camera would not allow while taking video to zoom, but this camera does. This camera is great for travel with it's small size fits in the palm of you hand. It is good in low light situations and when you just need something small.

The manual (downloaded) is something like 146 pages. That indicates how many options this camera has. The 16x Leica zoom is excellent, and I opted to carry this camera in lieu of my Nikon D80 + lenses on extended vacation in Italy.

Stop working after 4 months, can not turn on. Sent to Panasonic repair center in Texas and a month later (sic) Panasonic reject repair under warranty due to rust!!! I could not believe when customer service said so about product I bought 4months ago.
Completely disappointed with product (extremely low quality product and extremely bad Panasonic support, I will never buy Panasonic brand)"

Despite attractive specs and favorable reviews, camera doesn't live up to expectations. Picture quality is downrigt horrible - wased-up and overprocessed. Zoomed pictures are very noisy and loose the color. Videos shot indoors are extremely noisy. GPS functionality is nearly useless -- takes it forever ta acquire a signal and until it does, your photos get stamped w/ coordinates of a previous location. Retuned it after a few days. Will stick to Canon going forward...

I needed a high quality pocket camera with wide angle and decent optical zoom, that could also take smooth HD video. The Lumix DMC-ZS10 is perfect. It's very easy to use. I spent only 5 minutes with the manual, and I can do everything. Get a good Class 10 SDHC card. At least 20MB/sec.

Capable of good results for casual snapshots under good conditions. Best suited for family snaps and travel photos. The video is nice too. GPS works nicely too!
The Panasonic Z cameras keep getting better.
I am really getting to detest the Panasonic software, PhotoFun Studio. The biggest reason for the 4 not 5 rating, but the good news is since it only shoots Jpegs, your really don't need it. However, if you shoot videos, you MUST have it to see them.
