You'll never have to leave Panasonic's Lumix DMC-TS3 Digital Camera (Silver) behind for fear you'll break it--it's built to survive a drop of 6.6' (2 m), it's waterproof to 40' (12 m), dustproof, and freezeproof to 14°F (-10°C)--as close to indestructible as a compact digital camera gets. And the TS3 is your best travel companion: it has built-in GPS that geo-tags your pictures with the Country/Region/Town where they were taken, as well as a compass, an altimeter, a barometer, and a world clock that will automatically set itself to local time!
But it's what's inside the TS3 that makes it worth saving: 12.1MP of resolution, a 4.6x Leica wide-angle 28-128mm (35mm equivalent) lens, full 1920 x 1080 HD video, and a bright 2.7" LCD monitor with 230K-dot resolution. Sonic AF gives you very fast autofocus, and the shutter lag is one of the shortest among compact digital cameras. It has Power O.I.S. image stabilization plus a Motion Deblur function, so you never have to look at another blurry photo. Face Detection and Recognition modes give you great photos of people by optimizing exposure and focus for faces, and Intelligent Resolution guarantees image quality even using high ISO sensitivity (up to 6400).
8 color modes help you tweak pictures creatively and a variety of Scene modes (for photos and movies) maximize every image for you. You can share any picture or movie you shoot by uploading to sites such as Facebook or YouTube, using the included easy-to-use Lumix Image Uploader.

I beat the heck out of my cameras shooting surfing photos and videos with my family. I had the TS1 for two years before it gave in and died. The TS3 has some smart redesigns:
No more moving parts to control camera: Now zoom is handled by two buttons, in and out. (not a slider) Mode is also controlled by buttons. (not a rotating dial) Also, the mem card, ports and battery are together with a stronger access door. (instead of two doors on the TS1)
If you shoot wet / underwater photography, be sure to use "rainx" before going out. It really helps to keep droplets off the lens.

The image quality on the TS3 leaves A LOT to be desired - mushy details, way overblown highlights, deep shadows even in good lighting. My camera seems to treat every situation as low light, and unfortunately it really and truly cannot handle low light.
Given the awards, reviews, high praise, etc. and after extensive testing to try to find lighting in which this camera excels, I think I have a lemon. Unfortunately, I'm beyond the Panasonic return period, which means I'm stuck with it, despite my best efforts. Although the Panasonic tech agreed that my experience seemed unusual, he refused to agree that it was a lemon.
This is where bad tech support meets bad image quality. I have spoken with Panasonic several times, and each time I have been told to manually adjust ISO, exposure, etc...which is a completely absurd suggestion for a point-and-shoot I bought to take snorkeling. I would consider this an appropriate fix if and only if the camera came with the magical power to make fish hold a pose while I futz with the settings. (Intelligent auto on this thing REALLY stretches the definition of the word "intelligent.")
In short, count me as a distinctly dissatisfied Panasonic customer. I'll stick with Nikon or Canon from here on out, but sadly I can't take my SLR snorkeling.

Bought this as a second camera to take on vacation to the beach. Worked really well for snorkeling trip, day at the beach, anywhere I didn't want to take my

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS3 Digital Camera (Silver):
Was out on some sand dunes in some driving winds, and the camera stood up to the steady blowing sand. GPS works pretty well, though it can take a while to update and doesn't seem to work indoors at all. Photo quality is good overall, though sometimes the autofocus doesn't seem to work so well for landscape shots.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS3 Digital Camera (Silver):
I use the TS3 for all situations but I got it so I could use it underwater. It does a great job everywhere. The HD video is awesome. It has several cool features like GPS, 3D photos and compass. It is pretty small so it fits in my pocket. I have noticed some digital noise in a couple indoor shots when I couldn't use the flash. But I compared the images from several different cameras and overall, the TS3 had the best, least noisy photos. The others were Fujufilm (the worst), Nikon, Sony, Olympus.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS3 Digital Camera (Silver):
Takes some time to get a GPS lock. Very light, but slightly bigger than anticipated. Be aware of the open lens aperture (fingerprints/dust) and that this is the TS3 (Imperial units/NTSC) version. Flashing the FT3 firmware will not change it to a Metric/PAL unit. Free silicon jacket currently shipped with it is fine but blocks access to battery/SD card compartment. Overall a very responsive and useable camera when toughness is desirable. Better value for money option than the TS4.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS3 Digital Camera (Silver):
My husband and I purchased this camera in Dec 2011 for our 2 week honeymoon to Costa Rica.
(I previously had the original Olympus TOUGH camera, but after about 1.5-2 years, the photo quality went WAY down and eventually water leaked into the casing and ruined the camera (luckily we salvaged the memory card). After some quick research and a recommendation, we chose the Lumix)
The camera performed very well transitioning from the dry climate of Colorado to the hot and VERY humid Costa Rican air, as well as in fresh water and salt water.
For a durable, waterproof point and shoot, the price is right and the quality (in my opinion) is quite good considering.
One interesting point about the design is that the lens does not have a cover at all. I imagine it limits problems with sand or other sediments that could make it stick, but I am concerned it may get scratched.
As with our Olympus, I think time will tell how well this camera can stand up to the elements while maintaining quality and function.

I have owned all three models of this camera, they have all been good, but this one is great. I use it to take surf pictures and it holds up just fine in rough surf. And the picture and video quality is excellent for a point and shoot camera. I do wish some one would make a waterproof camera that could shoot raw. I highly recommend using it with the Wrist Pod by Golden Hour [@]

As a fresh and saltwater fly fisherman, I need a camera that can get wet.
Bought this after dunking an S95.
Raw and more user control would be nice!

I have actually owned all three generations of this camera and this is by far the best and one of the best on the market. The Canon D10 is still pretty great but this one gives it a run for its money. I use this as a supplement to my everyday Nikon DSLR and a pretty good Canon camcorder, so I mostly use it under water, at the beach, or backpacking. Durability got a little better from the first two generations which is cool. But the real story is the picture quality (above and below the water surface). It has gotten ten times better.

I bought the camera for when I go to Barbados so I haven't used it underwater yet. Considering the folded optics and small sensor the camera does a great job even at ISO 800. It is quite fast for most operations and the movies look fine. I would like more flexibility with controls but it is a point and shoot. It is a little more expensive than some others but you get a very competent little camera.

I took it to Jamaica and used under rain, dust and snorkeled up to 7 meters, it survived well and the results were great. I just expected the GPS function did not take so long to update the position it took several minutes to find the new location manually (it did not update by itself).

I have drowned three waterproof cameras, and recently crunched another. So far, this one has been fine, though not yet subjected to much abuse. The startup time is nice and short, and so far picture quality is very good. Although not a big deal, the altimeter was a nice gadget on a recent hike. The only complaint would be the size, a bit larger than my son's waterproof Sony, and a significant lump in your pocket.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS3 Digital Camera (Silver):
I'm a full-time shooter but wanted a basic weatherproof camera for times that I don't want to use a phone or a larger camera. I also have a m4/3s kit that is great but this is much smaller and easier to bring along.
I haven't taken this diving but I've already inadvertently splashed it more than I'd ever want to if it were a non-sealed camera. Image quality is fine for what it is, maybe on par with a $200 non-weatherproof camera. Images over ISO 400 are pretty noisy, it's not ideal for low light or indoor parties. But I figured it would be like this beforehand so no disappointments there. The Panasonic user interface is better than most. The GPS is more of a novelty for tagging your photos but it is very "loose" as to exact location. I like the flat lens for pocket-ability. It would be nice with a Ey-Fi card to upload files without opening up the camera. The battery life seems abit shorter than other cameras of this size. I'd get it again, this leads the weatherproof category until you get into over-$1000 housings.

I love this camera for all that it offers.
Tough, waterproof, and easy to use.
Super sharp pics, video or still - easy to use. Close up feature is fantastic-
I was a Pentax fan with the waterproof feature but this one sold me since it goes down to 40'. I carry it daily in my purse and find it a little bulky in comparison to the Pentax but with the added features I think it was way worth the switch.
Decent pricing and battery holds out well. Winner overall!

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS3 Digital Camera (Silver):
I normally shoot with DSLRs, but found myself leaving them home more and more because of their weight, size, and inability to cope with wet and/or cold weather. Saw an ad for the DMC-TS3 and decided to take a chance. I was pleasantly surprised. I knew it would be small and light, but didn't think it would produce such good images. In macro mode, the results were WAY above my expectations. On the negative side, use of any ISO above 200 produces unacceptable results--at least to my critical eye. Short zoom range pretty much limits use in the outdoors to scenery/panoramic shots. Though I didn't buy the camera for its ability to shoot video, it does shoot outstanding HD video in AVCHD format. Unfortunately, if you want to shoot HD AVI video, the camera's image stabilization isn't available in that mode (it is available in AVCHD). Overall I'm pleased with the camera--it was just what I was looking for to carry with me on fishing trips, hiking, and everywhere I go, when I don't want to lug a big DSLR along, but want to be able to shoot pictures should an opportunity arises.
