The Blu-ray format is capable of producing stunning, high definition images, as Blu-ray discs can hold up to five times as much as DVDs. As a full HD 1080p player, the BDP-S480 is capable of producing clear, crisp HD video on your HDTV. 24p True Cinema technology also enhances your cinema experience -- since most films were mastered at 24 frames per second, they're played back in the same way for high quality imaging. IP (interlaced to progressive) noise reduction cleans up images from your interlaced sources like DVDs, so they'll take on a more Blu-ray like picture quality.
But this player goes beyond disc-based media: you can stream internet content from Sony's proprietary BRAVIA platform and see movie extras like filmmaker chats and interactive quizzes when you pair it with an adapter and your home internet connection. Your new BDP-S480 also supports Gracenote Metadada Service, so you can see additional movie information or search across internet apps to find related entertainment. You can see movies from Netflix (subscription-based), create customized radio stations with Pandora and entertain yourself with internet videos from YouTube to transform your living room into a gateway for multimedia entertainment. Or, just stream from your PC to play your personal collection of music, movies and photos.
If you have Sony HomeShare network speakers, you can stream music wirelessly to other rooms of your house from a CD or services like Qriocity or Pandora with thanks to its PartyStreaming capability.
