I purchased this drive to upgrade a new MacBook Pro. The performance improvement is incredible. Applications start instantaneously, the computer cold boots in about 15 seconds. I benchmarked it at 250 MB/s writes and 500 MB/s reads.
Because there is no moving parts, it made the computer completely silent during normal operation. Not sure if it had any affect on battery life.
The drive was very easy to install and I have not encountered any problems with it so far.

I recently purchased 2 M4 ssd drives from B & H who are great by the way, I brought a 512GB and a 128GB, fitted the 128 to my 4 year old dell fps laptop which is now running better than ever but the 512gb was a different story.
I cloned the drive which I thought went ok but when I tried to install to my 17" MBP (2011) it failed so I assumed the clone hadn't worked properly so tried to reformat the drive but with no joy, in the end I called Crucial tech support who suggested a few things that didn't work so called back and they said it must be faulty so to return it to B & H but due to B & H holidays and time restrictions I had I didn't have time to do that so asked if I could send it directly to them and they send me a new drive which they said they would do but I had to purchase the new drive ($850) and then once they had received the old drive back they would refund the money.
I sent the faulty drive back via UPS which cost me $28 and then a few days later received the new replacement drive. As soon as I saw the new drive I knew something was up as it was just in a plain white box unlike the previous new drive and when I opened it up it was confirmed they had sent me a refurbished drive and not a new one.
Due to work commitments and I didn't have time to complain about so went ahead and cloned the drive and installed and all work perfect so very happy with that. They received the fatly drive back and refunded the money the next day which was good but when I emailed to mention that I had received a refurbished drive and not a new one they didn't want to know and just said it was as good as the original which I am sure it is but that's not the point, I paid for a brand new product which is not what I now have install in my laptop so I am a little annoyed.
I have previously purchased refurbished ssd drives direct from crucial at a very discounted price and have been very pleased with them but I didn't get this as a discounted price, I have paid full price.
I am very happy with the product and the speed difference on start up and opening programs is amazing although the 4 year old dell laptop running Vista actually starts up faster now than my 2011 MBP which is a little annoying.
I would recommend an ssd drive to anyone who wants to get more done but maybe try other brands!!!

Comments about Crucial Technology 512GB m4 SSD 2.5" Solid State Internal Drive:
I bought this drive so as to speed up MacBook Pro 15" as the only thing that slows this machine down is the very slow 5400rpm drive. And in short it now flies. :)
The process to swap the drives out was super easy and I moved all my data across using migration assistant.
If any of you are thinking about getting this drive to speed up your MacBook Pro I would definitely recommend it. This drive is a must have.

Bought two of these drives to install in my Mac Pro. Installed them in Raid Configuration. Super Super Fast!!! I purchased two of these and installed them as a 1TB drive. Super easy installation. Google search Mac Pro Raid to see all the possibilities. I would purchase the Crucial 3.5 - 2.5 adapter brackets. The OCZ brackets I purchased did not match these drives.

Comments about Crucial Technology 512GB m4 SSD 2.5" Solid State Internal Drive:
This has been one of the best purchases I've made. Now I don't usually write reviews, but I felt I should for this. The drive is ultra snappy and has been a godsend. My FCP export times have been cut in half and Photoshop and Flash run substantially quicker than before. I highly recommend this for anyone who was on the fence about SSD. I know I was for a good couple months, but I'm glad I finally pulled the trigger.

Comments about Crucial Technology 512GB m4 SSD 2.5" Solid State Internal Drive:
I installed this drive in a 2011 Macbook Pro (16gb memory, Core i7 quad-core). I previously used a 256gb SSD in this system and wanted more storage so I shopped around and monitored prices until I found this deal from B&H.
COST
The cost averages out to be around $1.20 / gb which is comparable to the pricing for smaller capacity drives. So, even though $600 sounds expensive, the cost-per-gigabyte is nearly the same. Shipping was free which also sweetened this deal.
GEEKBENCH
Looking at the Geekbench specs for my machine after installing this drive, I am getting an overall score of 10828. I create product videos (HD) and use virtual machines and the performance of this drive in my experience so far is excellent.
BOOT TIMES
My Mac books in about 10 seconds, my Windows virtual machines boot in about the same amount of time.
BATTERY LIFE
Using solid state drives in a notebook can extend battery life when compared to traditional storage.

Pricy, but worth every penny! My MacBook Pro (2010) starts to fly! Easy to install. Used Superduper to clone the HD and no problem. Let's see how long it will last and be problem free. So far, can't be more happier.
Have purchased products from B&H for more than 10 year, and they are absolutely the best!

Comments about Crucial Technology 512GB m4 SSD 2.5" Solid State Internal Drive:
I just got this drive a couple weeks ago and am super happy I finally made the leap to SSD over HDD. It's made such a difference in my web developer workflow, which I do freelance for a living. Applications open, close and respond faster, I can have more open at once and not worry as much about my system bogging down, and in general everything is much more responsive.
Installation was a breeze, I simply took my old drive out and popped the new SSD in and then did a full clone from the old drive in an external enclosure to the SSD which took about 7 hours for 350+ gb of data. After that I was good to go with a full copy of everything working just as it did on my old drive. I had originally considered going with a hybrid approach to cut costs (a smaller SSD along side my HDD in the optical drive bay) but decided I didn't want to mess with having two drives in my system and am super glad I did this because that would have been a major pain. The 512gb gives me plenty of space for everything I need on my laptop.
B&H was prompt in shipping the drive and I have no complaints so far about them. I have noticed the price in the drive go down slightly in the last couple weeks and am going to be checking with them if they will honor crediting me this price difference since it's so soon after buying the drive.
If you're looking for an SSD a little more on the budget side but one that still performs great, look no further than the Crucial M4!

Comments about Crucial Technology 512GB m4 SSD 2.5" Solid State Internal Drive:
I have had this drive for about 3weeks and it has been amazing. My laptop takes about 2 seconds to wake from sleep mode and games load before I can even get comfortable in my seat. I highly recomned the upgrade to a SSD.
The drive came and was unusually light (i almost thought they had forgotten to send it) and well protected. The instalation didn't take long, i did update to the latest firmware (Crucial m4 2.5-inch (9.5mm) SSD - v0309) which can be obtained from the Crucial website. However it did come with v0009 which is required for macs.
Only thing to remeber is that this won't come with a caddy for your laptop so you may want to source one of these also if you have two HDD bays.
finally, Price per gig - at the time of purchase this wasn't the absolute cheapest (a close second but with the required capacity). I did check other sites and B&H was one of the cheapest i saw.

So for 650.00 I have much faster start up for apps but zero speed increase in photoshop. Might be one file slower to process raw to tif in photoshop with 250gb free space and 16gb of ram in my 2.3 ghz i7 quad. CS5.04
So, I don't think I'd buy another one and not sure if I understand all the reviews, I know opening and saving RAW to TIF is a hard drive intensive task (open/save) so I don't get why I see zero increase 9-10 files per min. same as my 500gb hitachi 7200 drive. If someone can chime in please do. PS also tried using Canon DPP same result.

Installed this into a late 2009 MacBook Pro, running OS X 10.6. No real issues, very simple install.
Followed this document to physically insert the drive
http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/MacBook_13inch_Hard_Drive_DIY.pdf
Did need to buy a Torx screwdriver to swap the drive lugs from the hard disk to the SSD.
Used SuperDuper to image my harddisk to an external drive, then booted the eternal drive and copied the harddisk back to the SSD. Then extended the partition size.
No issues after about 3 weeks. performance is great (although I'm starting to take it for granted now)

Comments about Crucial Technology 512GB m4 SSD 2.5" Solid State Internal Drive:
Highly recommended if you can get over the expense. These drives are fantastic. It's hard to believe the improvement unless you've seen it. These Crucial M4 units are rock solid, dead easy, and seem to work effortlessly with almost anything. (Check the manufacturer's web site; if Crucial recommends it, they also guarantee it.)
I've bought and installed a number of these. The M4 is a boon to the working photographer or anyone who uses a laptop traveling or on the go. I use these in all the laptops I take to the field. Installing is dead-simple (following computer manufacturer's instructions) and treat this unit just like any other hard drive. Use a migration kit or other software to clone your existing hard-drive, then swap this one into your computer. After the swap, you'll notice performance rockets -- no more waiting for the computer to boot or long disk reads/writes when processing big images. Battery life also goes way up; my battery used to last 4 hours, now it goes seven or eight. (The conventional hard drive is one of the the biggest power consumers in your computer.) The computer will run cooler -- now you can run it on your lap all day. (Conventional drives are also huge heat generators.) The computer also just became much less fragile -- you can move / bounce around without risking a drive crash. (No spinning platters in this drive = no more head crashes.) The computer just became safe to use in a moving vehicle or plane. Finally, for anyone still worried about product life: check the manufacturer's web site and you'll find expected life of this product is about the same as a conventional hard drive. I was cautious about SSDs at first, but the Crucial M4 has made me a believer.

The price per gigabyte on this drive is one of the best.
With the 0009 firmware update (not shipped on the drive), this SSD flies. Initially the drive seemed to stall on start-up or coming out of sleep, but since I updated from Firmware 0001 to 0009, this has gone away.
I have had this drive for over two weeks and so far it has been excellent.

Great size. Great speed. Great value. This drive is being used in a MacBook Pro and I have another one in a MacPro accompanied by a RAID. The drive is near as fast (sometimes faster) than the OCZ Vertex series, its less expensive, and more reliable. I highly recommend it.

Comments about Crucial Technology 512GB m4 SSD 2.5" Solid State Internal Drive:
I use this as a primary drive in a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW). Installation was a breeze: mounted the drive into the case, hooked up the power and the SATA 6Gb/s cables, turned on the box with the Win7 disk and it started installing right away. The OS installation was very fast and so were all the updates and subsequent installs. Noticeably faster than smaller, other brand SSDs I used (mainly Samsung). I run Cubase6 on the DAW, sample sets now load instantaneously.
The only downside of it is the price, far more expensive per GB than conventional HDs. I would replace all my HDs with these if they were cheaper, the performance is fantastic.
