Media Composer 5.5 continues to natively support RED and QuickTime formats (including Apple ProRes and .mov files captured by Canon's DSLRs), and Canon's 4:2:2 MPEG-2 codec. There's also direct AVCHD import and expanded support for Matrox MXO2 Mini external monitoring. You can edit practically any tapeless format instantly, without the need for transcoding, and edit mixed resolutions and formats on the same timeline.
There's a huge collection of built-in 2D and 3D effects and transitions as well as tools for motion tracking, keying, compositing, title creation, color correction, and editing & mixing audio. With Media Composer 5.5 you can execute effects, transitions, and color correction with more direct control. Introduced for this version is the ability to manipulate transitions in the timeline directly with the expanded Smart Tool.
Also expanded is support for external hardware such as I/O devices from Avid and other manufacturers, as well as control surfaces to help you edit more comfortably and efficiently.
