The B+W 39mm 0.9 ND 103 Filter is a solid neutral density filter providing a 3 stop exposure. This 0.9 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily. Neutral density filters do not affect the coloration of the image and are ideal for pairing with other filters.
B+W filters are constructed from high quality Schott glass for increased optical clarity and color fidelity. They feature a brass filter ring for durability as well as jamming prevention.

Comments about B+W 39mm 0.9 ND 103 Filter:
ND filters have a couple of different uses that make them a necessity. The obvious and most common usage is for dragging the shutter speed but I use it mostly for controlling depth while shooting with flash outdoors.
The M9 has only a 180th sec. sync speed and unless you like to have everything in the background in perfect focus, an ND filter is a much needed accessory.

I wanted a Leica filter for my Leica lens. Appears to be well made. Fits great. Not a lot more to say.

Comments about B+W 39mm 0.9 ND 103 Filter:
Great quality, as with all B+W filters. I use this 3-stop ND filter with 400 or higher speed film during bright and sunny days, so I can stop my lenses down to f/2-f/5.6. No degradation to expensive Leica lenses which is something that can't be said of cheaper brand filters. Great as always....
