Bought this HDD to use as a back-up drive. So far it's been great but I've only had it in action for a few weeks now. We'll see!

Comments about Western Digital My Book Studio External Hard Drive (3TB):
Plugs in to my Macbook Pro (running Lion) and runs immediately. No installation. Works seemlessly with Time Machine Backup too. I've tried a few different hard drives over the last few years and the My Book Studio drives are the only ones that haven't failed yet.

Comments about Western Digital My Book Studio External Hard Drive (3TB):
Very happy with this purchase. Super easy to sync with Apple Time Machine. Also scanning directly to the drive for high-res images - reads/writes very fast and is quiet.
Was a bit more expensive than some others but no complaints.

Comments about Western Digital My Book Studio External Hard Drive (3TB):
My old 1TB drive was filled to capacity because I was using it both as a Time Machine backup and to store music (bad idea, I know). I wanted to split them onto two drives and have enough room for future music purchases so I researched the 3TB drives on the market and went with the MyBook. So far it's been absolutely perfect. It's totally quiet and works flawlessly. I was able to move all of my music from the old drive to this one in a couple of hours and it's a much faster and more efficient drive in general.

Comments about Western Digital My Book Studio External Hard Drive (3TB):
First, let me say that I did a lot of research to figure out which external drive to purchase. I placed my order from B&H because of the competitive pricing and because I trust this merchant. I ordered it on Monday, hoping to have it by Saturday. To my surprise, it arrived the next day! I wanted the 3TB to store my movies and remove them from my iMac. Since it came Mac ready, there was nothing to it: easy use, lots of space. So far, no complaints. I am considering purchasing another to back up the one I already have.

Comments about Western Digital My Book Studio External Hard Drive (3TB):
I have used the product only once so far but it worked great. I heard rumors that my Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3 would not recognize the device, but it did. I did not have to update the wd firmware as I was anticipating.
Customer service for B&H was fantatstic. They had called me to double check my information since I gave them the incorrect credit card info by mistake.
Great product, great customer service! Thanks B&H

Order arrived quickly and on time.
All cords included. Sleek metal design.
Very simple to setup as noted above. Plug in the power cord and your preference of included data transfer cord (I use Firewire 800) and connect it to your computer. I use a Mac, so it was a one click operation:
Time Machine asks, "Do you want to use this device for backup". A- "Yes". Done.
Quiet operation.

Comments about Western Digital My Book Studio External Hard Drive (3TB):
Surprisingly fast, quiet, and affordable. I bought this drive for backup with Apple's TimeMachine, and it's great. Its included software is fantastic and actually improves performance. For [$], to find a drive this fast, this smooth and quiet, low heat, and energy friendly is unheard of. And it comes with really good WD utilities. BTW, I had only intended this drive to be for backups, but threw a bunch of HD footage on it, thinking it would be laggy on a FW800 port and was nicely surprised to see that it's little performer. Totally unexpected, but the little guy can solidly handle some editing work. Despite what I was asking it to do it stayed fairly cool. Great design. Very smart,

I use this drive to store all of my digital copies of movies and tv shows. The all metal design is ideal for keeping the unit cool and sturdy. The dual FW 800 interface makes it easy to daisy chain with other drives you have or might add in the future. Looks great with the aluminum Macs too.

The product is great except mine started to make clicking noise after 3 days...I have been using WD drives for years and never had any issue - I guess it was just a piece that I received came out to be defective. I have another very same one for a while and has no issues!
Will get other one...should work without any problems...the first 2 days when it worked for me it was super quiet and cool...very nice design! Plus you get three kinds of table firewire 800, firewire 800to400, and usb cable, so whichever fits your system you can use it with.

Comments about Western Digital My Book Studio External Hard Drive (3TB):
I don't think you could expect more for your money than what you get with this deal. I get sustained transfer speeds of ~35mb/sec which makes me think it's a 5400rpm drive inside but it's hard to be sure.
