I need to use both batteries for my video light at the same time if I need to go wireless. This is the perfect charger for my need.

I received this charger yesterday and immediately plugged it in and put two XL-B3s on it. Something didn't seem quite right as the charge time indicator wasn't indicating. So I removed one, and just let one battery charge overnight. This morning I checked on it. Still charging. I think one battery should have been done by now. 12+ hours for one battery is much longer than advertised. But the good news is, it is charging. So three stars for that.

Is this charger ok for NP F 970 and NP F 570 bateries?

Yes it is, this charger is for Sony L-Series batteries. The Sony NP-F970 and other models that start with NP-F are considered L-Series.

How does this charger compare with the Watson Duo DX-4203? Is it much better quality? Is it much more reliable?

The Sony AC Adapter and Twin Charger For L-Series Batteries is a power adapter that at the flip of a switch turns into a two-battery charger for Sony's L-series batteries. Four power cords come included. The Duo LCD Charger for L & M Series Batteries from Watson charges two batteries simultaneously, drawing power from either an AC wall source (an AC cord with two-prong plug is included) or a 12/24V DC power source (a DC car charger is also included). The Duo Charger features a USB power output that supports up to a 2A draw to charge and power smartphones, digital cameras, and other devices with a USB power input. The interchangeable battery plate system allows you to charge other camcorder-type batteries by swapping out the included plates for different camera plates (not included). The intelligent charger features an LCD screen that graphically shows charge status for both batteries. The charger also features a test button that allows you to test batteries when the unit is not plugged into power, to see their remaining power as a percentage of their capacity. The test button will also switch the display between battery capacity and charging voltage.

This charger can only do one function at a time. So no, it cannot power the camera and charge batteries simultaneously. If I may note however, when using this as a charger the great thing about it is that you place two batteries in it and then forget it. It will charge the batteries perfectly with out anything on your part. In the bad old days you had to monitor battery charging and change the battery manually. For the price, you get an excellent smart battery charger that can also power the camera if it needs to.

Can this power the Sony FDR-AX1E? I think I need 12 volts of output but this one only has 8. Is that right?
