Speakers are wonderful, LCD is bright and crystal clear, and the WiFi is fast.

This little gem does so much, its hard to really put it in a single niche, but it shines at playing music, watching videos/movies through the home network (via computer broadcast) and the games are just amazing.

The stock camera application seems at little buggy, and has some strange lag inherent in photo capture, but 3rd party camera apps seem to work just fine.

All in all, this little gem of electronics engineering is just amazing.

I was looking for a tablet or a player and the samsung galaxy player 5.0 is exactly what I wanted.

I use it everywhere to stay in touch with my friends. I come from Canada and textPlus give me the opportunity to get a free online number and i can make and receive call for only 2¢/min everywhere in Canada. Of course i need a wifi connection to make call.

The gps on this device is very useful to travel since you can download offline maps. I also use the gps device to get stats when I run. It shows my path and a lot of stats about my speed.

The 5" screen is exactly what i was looking for. It is very bright and it is enough big to watch video or article on the web.

The battery is very good!! I can use my player during a whole day without any problem.

I have had the Galaxy player for about 2 months now and have enjoyed using it on a daily basis.
I can show off my photos in style and really don't notice any quality issues due to the low resolution.
I don't use it for music very much, but the sound seems OK when I do. Youtube videos come through great, and it works for email as well.
I have also dabbled with some ebook apps and a few games. The selection of apps is mind boggling.
A word of warning: the plastic case, although looks good, is very smooth and slippery, so you need to have a good grip on it. I am looking for a case of some sort to help with the grip and offer some protection, but the pickings are slim right now.
The main negative is with the built in compass. I was hoping to use some of the orienteering apps and a star gazing app, but the compass wanders all over the place and is rarely accurate for more than a few seconds. Not a deal breaker by any means, just a bit disappointing.

Overall, I am extremely pleased with my purchase, so much so that my wife now wants one too.

I needed a couple of Android Ipod Touch alternatives for my kids aged 7 and 9. The price of this player is the best available at this time. Samsung Galaxy's are great quality and 100% better than low cost Chinese brand tablets that are not much cheaper.

The kids love these. The screens are large and bright, the finger touch is fast and responsive. The android version is fine for kids and is the same as on my Galaxy phone so it's a breeze to help them out with setup and any problems they have.

Music and movies play well. The camera works great. The battery lasts at least all day.

I recommend this player for everyone who wants a compact Android tablet style wifi device without a phone.

Everyone thinks its a phone, with Skype you can even call people with it. But it's bigger, brighter and the battery lasts way longer. As for contect? you are no longer at the mercy of Itunes, just plug it in the PC and put files on it. Lot's of apps available. The worst part is trying to get it away from my 8 year old daughter.

I was looking for a replacement flac music player for my Cowon S9 that had a worn out internal battery. This is exactly what I needed. A music player that plays flac files & does everything else a smart phone can do, but is not a smart phone. It's very well built & I love the Android OS. I added the PowerAmp android app for a better music playing experience & it works fine. I would recommend this Samsung Player.

My wife is commuting 2 hours per day and I was looking for an alternative to the closed iPod and that would have FM radio. The Samsung Galaxy fitted this description perfectly. And the 5" screen is much better than the iPod for looking at video. 7" tablets were also close fits but most of them were too expensive or lacking FM radio. And 7" is close to become impractical while commuting although it's a matter of taste.

The SGP is powered by Android and nowadays it's as powerful as the iOS system used in the iPod so you also get access to a ton of software (called apps in iPod speak). There are almost no video format or audio format that it can't read and you don't have to use iTunes to transfer them. Compatibility with Android games is pretty good, all the latest games play quite well. The only downside with games is that they drain the battery very fast. Otherwise the battery is quite good for other activities like playing music, video, reading books, browsing the web, etc.

A nice touch is that the microphone and speaker are placed just like a phone so with the correct Voip software (CSipSimple, Skype, Google voice...) you can use it as a phone while connected to wi-fi. It just lacks the proximity sensor to make it perfect. But it has front facing video camera for video conference calls.

The only thing I don't like is the battery bug. It seems that on this version (Android 2.3.5) the battery indicator sometimes get stuck. The only way to get it back to display the correct amount of remaining capacity is to cycle on and off the player. I suggest you download Samsung Kies which is a bit like iTunes and will let you upgrade the firmware when (and if) it comes out.

At first i wanted to return it (before i actually got it). But now that i have it i can that i love this thing. I use it ever single day. I can watch videos on this thing for hours (the battery is a beasttttt). And i fool people into thinking its the galaxy note lmao. It saved me a lot of money as well as i was going to spend more for a 10 inch laptop!. Skype works good, videos are smooth, music is awesome.There are also tons of apps to use on this device.I highly recommend you buy this product!.

I really like this device. It is compact enough to fit into my pocket and has all the features of a tablet. I bought it initially to keep my Outlook database and to send emails, but now I use it as Kindle to read my e-books and as music- and video-player.

Pros:
1) Application "Deja office" in conjunction with "CompanionLink" ($50.00) allows me to keep my entire Microsoft Outlook 2007 database (which consists of Calendar, Contacts and Notes) on this device and synchronize it with my PC as necessary.
2) External 32 GB micro SD card is roomy enough to keep all my music, my videos and my e-books there.
3) Kindle application for Android works great
4) Screen is very bright, battery time is good
5) GPS is accurate
6) Video camera allows making mp4 video clips. In the dark it emits enough light to make video. But video is not HD-quality.
7) Photo camera is good. It takes pictures that can be printed on 4 x 6 inches paper in high quality
8) I like ear bugs that came with the device. I was listening music on the plane, and these ear bugs dramatically reduced engine noise. However to achieve high-quality sound, external speakers are highly recommended.
9) This device works well with Skype.
10) Easily detects wireless networks. Network setting is easy.

Cons:
1) I do not like that I have to press button every time I need to activate the screen. Eventually it will break.

I have an iPod touch that I use primarily for my email as well as internet. So the Samsung Player 5 is really great for its screen size to do this. I chose it also for the micro SD card. The Android interface is great and I love the notification system. The sound is very good, radio is fun to have. I come back about the size of the screen that allows you to have a good sized keyboard and is't better than my ipod touch to surf on the internet. The screen is barely smaller than the screen of a 7 inches tablet but the Samsung is more portable!Also, I used Skype to make phone calls and works very well and the video conference too!
A device quite amazing that I think surpasses the ipod hands down!

I got the Samsung Galaxy Player so that I could drop my data plan with my carrier whom I am very displeased with. This hand held mini like tablet is the smartest thing you can do when wanting a reliable, clear, and functional techy toy that does EVERYTHING but makes calls. The internet on the go has never been more enjoyable for me! The radio feature is absolutely wonderful and a main featured plus!!! If you want to drop expensive data plans, this is surely the way to go!

I have been using a PDA for years. I was looking for a small unit that I can take with me for organization and reading, but I was not interested in paying for a cell phone plan. This unit allows me to access great apps from the google marketplace. The screen is brilliant.

It will not play the most graphic intensive games that are coming out, but that wasn't my goal. I find the unit to be very responsive.

Only negative I can say it that speakers are in the back of the unit. This means the majority of the volume goes into your hand instead of you ears.

New to Android so I haven't quite gotten the full hang of everything yet but really like this device. Find myself using it more than the iPhone 4 that my employer provides.

Excellent size for handheld "mini" tablet use and much easier navigation. Included office software seems to work well - a few quirks to learn with the Excel files but very handy. System beats Windows Mobile hands down and is a good rival to iOS.

I tossed in a spare 8GB mSD card and doubled capacity immediately. IO to the card is slower than the internal memory but still plays mpeg4 movies back pretty well. Recommend it to anyone wanting a "tweener" sized device smaller than a typical tablet but larger than an iPhone\iPod touch. My friends that have seen it have called it an overgrown iPod Touch...

You can run flash pretty seamlessly via the browser - no problems yet with flash enabled sites. Playing SWF files back from disk is another story. Need 3rd party App to do so. Also learned that Acrobat reader is a bit crippled. Tricky to search and can't handle forms (seems adobe drops that for all mobile readers). The flash and PDF issues are more on Adobe than Android from what I've seen ....

Wireless works pretty well but does seem to have a shorter range based on the quick loss of bars as I move away from my access point. Used it without a problem traveling via hotel wireless and wirelss at the airport(s). Haven't tested the BT too much yet but don't expect too many problems.

Main function is supposedly as a media player. I got it to use more as a hand held tablet and it really meets my expectations. No to figure out if I can tether it to the iPhone for web access on the road.... :)
