The Sony 16-50mm f/2.8 Standard Zoom Lens is a compact DT lens that fits APS-C sensor cameras with the Sony A-mount. In addition to the wide-angle to mid-range telephoto zoom, the lens features a large 2.8 aperture. Extra-low dispersion glass works to reduce ghosting, flare, and chromatic aberration, while asperhical lens elements also correct aberrations at wide-angles.

Comments about Sony 16-50mm f/2.8 Standard Zoom Lens:
I needed a wide angle zoom for my Sony FS-100 and this one is perfect. It's fast, and relatively light. And mounts onto my Alpha LA-EA1 adapter.

Comments about Sony 16-50mm f/2.8 Standard Zoom Lens:
I am a long-time Canon shooter who recently received a Sony a65, so I needed a general purpose lens and chose the 16-50 2.8. The first thing I noticed was the build quality - easily Canon "L" quality. The focus motor is near silent, and it achieves focus very quickly. Image quality certainly did not disappoint, but I was also not blown away either. Bokeh is very pleasing, and sharpness is more than acceptable - with f/2.8 being very usuable. Also considering that this pretty much equates to a 24-75mm f/2.8, for the price you are getting quite the deal. All in all, I am very pleased with the lens - it does exactly what I need it to do. It's also parafocal, which is a nice addition especially when shooting video.

Comments about Sony 16-50mm f/2.8 Standard Zoom Lens:
Im a professional photographer and my main photography environments are weddings and models. Before this lens I had the kit 18-70mm Sony lens and I knew I had to get a better lens. I went to my local Sony Store and tried out some lens that would replace this kit lens I had. Out of all the lenses that I tried out, this was the one I fell in love with. Image quality is outstanding! Focus is extremely fast and quiet. It is a little heavy, but its only a matter of getting used to. I recomend this lens to anyone that is looking for a superb quality All-Around lens. In my opinion better than the 16-80 CZ and a whole lot faster. f/2.8 aperture delivers amazing results in any focal distance.

Comments about Sony 16-50mm f/2.8 Standard Zoom Lens:
I use this lens on my Alpha 33 camera in place of the standard zoom lens that came with it. This new lens allows me to shoot in much lower light without using a flash. It auto-focuses very fast and does it quietly. The lens is a little heavy but I'll just need to get used to that. I like the sharpness. I appreciate that it included a 'tulip' lens shade to help keep the glare out and to protect the lens. I received the lens in good condition and very quickly from B&H.

Comments about Sony 16-50mm f/2.8 Standard Zoom Lens:
I wanted to upgrade my A55 Sony. I recently made the jump from Canon to Sony as I like the A55 features, User friendly menus etc. Getting rid of the old Canon lenese and starting to build a new quiver of Sony takes some doing and the 16-50mm f/2.8 is the first move to upgrade my Sony SLT. The lens was easy knowing that is the first of four lenses I wanted for general purpose shooting for this camera. More importantly, the service at B&H is outstanding! In a world of recordings and prompts it is nice to get a human on the phone quickly, also somebody who knows the products and can anwser questions directly about your purchase. The communication, follow up email, shipping all went perfectly and the boxes showed up protected well and in great shape. I will definitely do business in the future with B&H and would recommend the Sony product I purchased.

Replaced my Tamron 17-50/2.8 on my new Sony A77. Have to say that at F4 is too sharp :)
The loudest noise when taking a picture with flash is the flash discharge :)! You almost couldn't hear this lens focusing system (SSM is another way another thing from SAM!)
Zoom ring is a little hard to turn but I expect this is from being new.
Recommended.

Comments about Sony 16-50mm f/2.8 Standard Zoom Lens:
the perfect range for me, this lens is well made, solid, a bit heavy, but really delivers the goods. sharp corner to corner, great color and contrast at a fast 2.8 across the range, though maybe a tad softer at the long end. i would have expected it to be more expensive for the quality of build and image, but i'm not complaining! compared to a za 24 f2.0 on a a65, and this zoom was as good in resolution, a bit better for focus speed and accuracy. a great lens and bargain.

Comments about Sony 16-50mm f/2.8 Standard Zoom Lens:
Good lens from Sony, one that is not converted directly from Minolta. It was designed for the A77 and when coupled with the camera it shows. Slient and quick SSM focusing is excellent when shooting videos and action at a high fps rate.
f/2.8 throughout the zoom range gives beautiful bokeh. Very good walk around and portrait/wedding lens.

Comments about Sony 16-50mm f/2.8 Standard Zoom Lens:
I've been searching for a wide zoom for my a55 that matches the sharpness of my Tamron 28-75. This is the first one that does the job well. I've tried the Tamron and Sigma 17-50s an neither were near as sharp when cropped 100% (which often happens with a 50mm max focal lens). The Sony 16-50 is incredibly sharp even wide open - as sharp as my 35mm prime. The colors are gorgeous (compared to the Tamron warm cast).
Build quality is superb - solid materials, lots of metal instead of all plastic. The zoom is nicely dampened although a bit stiff since it's brand new. It has a zoom lock but it's not needed (yet).
I just sold my Tamron 28-75 and am happy to have a good APS-C replacement that covers this useful range at f/2.8.
Ordered overnight shipping from BH at 4pm and had the lens at 10am the next day - great service BH!

Comments about Sony 16-50mm f/2.8 Standard Zoom Lens:
This is the best wide zoom lens for the Sony NEX-FS100 because it is parfocal, which means it holds focus from full telephoto to wide.Photographers rely on autofocus but videographers need manual focus so a lens that is parfocal means you can change focal length (zoom out) without refocusing. The Sony LA-EA2 adapter should allow for autofocus but it will require updated firmware to get this feature to work on the FS100 video camera. Regardless, you still don't want to require the lens to have to refocus as you change focal length. The cost is also really low relative to the quality and compared other manufacturer' lenses of similar range. Here is a link to a more complete review of the SAL1650 on the FS100, with video comparing it to two other lenses:http://www.shawnlam.ca/2011/sony-sal1650-on-nex-fs100/
