The Steadicam Smoothee for GoPro HD HERO and HD HERO2 takes the same technology found on expensive Hollywood Steadicam rigs and shrinks it down to the perfect size for home and vacation use. Simply snap your HD HERO or HD HERO2 action camera into the specially designed mount, grip the handle, and float your camera smoothly and effortlessly through the air.
Featuring a gimbal design for smooth movement and an adjustable counterweight, the Smoothee features easy controls for adjusting front-to-back and side-to-side tilt. Fly up steps, through crowds, across fields, down sidewalks – wherever your legs can take you. And when you need to catch your breath and set the camera down, the quick-release mount doubles as a tabletop stand.
If you ever wanted to use your ultra-portable GoPro HD HERO to recreate your favorite moments from Rocky, Goodfellas, and The Shining, now you finally can. (Boxers, gangsters, and homicidal novelists must be purchased separately.)

Everything I expected and more. I was hesitant to spend the money, but the build quality and engineering is excellent. It takes only a few moments to adjust. It is the perfect size for day trips to zoo, skatepark, etc. Great drawstring bag case with pocket for adapters.
I have both the iPhone 4 and GoPro adapters. The iPhone adapter is very secure and is weighted nicely. It doubles as a tripod mount as well, which means I don't need to buy the SnapMount. Steadicam should add weight and a tripod bolt to the GoPro adapater.
My shots are VERY smooth now and look like pro videos -- it's worth every penny. So many people keep stopping me to ask what it is. When I show them the results, their faces light up and want to know how to get one. So awesome! I think Steadicam hit a home run with this design. I think they will be EVERYWHERE in a few years.
Steadicam: It's time to get some funding for better videos on youtube. The tutorials look like they are from the 80's. You also need to work on distribution. I'm in the SF bay area and couldn't find this product in any local store. If I had seen this in a store and could try it, I would have bought it from B&H much sooner. Your market is everyone with an iPhone and GoPro, not techy pro videographers.
Steadicam Smoothees are going to be huge! Proud to be an early adopter and will be promoting aggressively!

I purchased this for use with my GoPro Hero 2. After balancing the camera per the instructions and recommendations on the web, I am unable to have the unit not sway. Note that I have used a larger SteadiCam successfully with larger cameras. I fear that the weight of the GoPro isn't enough to help compensate for swaying. I also tried by adding the LCD to the camera, rebalancing, and still had swaying problems. Next I might try adding other forms of weight (top and bottom) to see if I can reduce the problem.
So, if you are purchasing this with the assumption that you will have a rock solid "steadi" shot, I would say that won't be the case. Occasionally it will be possible. But the frustrating swaying occurs too often.

Comments about Steadicam Smoothee for GoPro HD HERO and HD HERO2:
The Smoothee is the perfect solution for those hand-held shots you need to get with your GoPro HERO. It has a simple, elegant design that is easy to set up and start using. It does take some practice, but you can get the hang of it in just a few minutes. The results are great! The belt clip is a nice touch, so you don't have to always find a place to put it down. It's light and you don't get fatigued, even after using it for awhile. I would recommend getting the LCD back for the GoPro so you can see what you are shooting. If you are going to do handheld shots with your GoPro, this is essential.

Comments about Steadicam Smoothee for GoPro HD HERO and HD HERO2:
I use this smoothee for my GoPro Hero and Hero2 cameras for walking shots and b-roll.
It does great when walking and panning left and right. The handle fits comfortably in my hands. Stays straight in curves when walking forward, easy to find its sweet spot when making the tilt adjustments, and is light weight that it does not cause soreness in your hand or arm.
It gets the slightest touch, breeze, or any weight other than the camera or smoothee will throw it off balance. Does not stay snug on the quick release so I added a REALLY thin layer of foam to keep it snug tight on the quick release.
I do hope to add tension from the handle to the curved weight bar to keep it steady in windy places or when walking.

If your shooting with any of the small new HD cameras out there you need a Smoothie. Run don't walk to your computer and get one. If you ran to your computer with a smoothie you would never know it!

This compact unit works with my GoPro and my Sony Handycam with an adapter double ended tripod bolt. It takes a bit of practice to use the Steadicam smoothly, but the results give professional looking video. The unit is lightweight and easy to carry, but it tends to blow in the wind unless I lightly hold the center gimbal with my finger to keep the camera from swinging from side to side.

I have not use it as much as I want too since I bought this smoothee few weeks ago but from my initial testing, it does help you getting that stability for better viewing. I bought this particularly for my GoPro HD Hero 2 and original cameras, its easy to use and with a little practice, you'll be amazed how smooth you footage will be. Can't wait to spend more time with this great product, its a must have!

Near impossible to get a level and steady shot. Camera is so light the counterweight just overcompensates and rocks the camera.
Fortunately able to return.

Shows up ready to shoot out of the box. If you are shooting with GoPros, then you NEED this. Your footage will be night and day different. If you are shooting with Steadicams regularly, then this is an awesome alternative to pulling out the whole expensive rig just to get the stable shot.

The biggest part is the get the right balance. Once you have that dialled in you're all set. And it is a hugh difference from holding the camera in my hand and having the camera on the Smoothee. I love the smoothness of my videos now.

I own a full Steadicam rig with the vest, stand, batteries, etc. This does not take the place of flying a full size camera for many reasons, but it defiantly makes the GoPro a more useful tool in the toolbox. I used it to get some great b-roll of sports, closeups of product, and walking shots. The build is solid and the adjustments are labeled nicely. Practice, practice, practice!!!!

I have a nice prosumer canon camcorder but i was unable to get those nice smooth moving shots, this was a cost efficient alternative to buying a steadicam for my larger camcorder since I already owned the GoPro, it works great and is small and easy to use.

I went to Kauai for a wedding and decided that I would capture some of the scenery and the wedding on my gopro. It worked better than I ever expected. The best part is when I took a helicopter around the island. The stabilizer worked beautifully.

Using my GoPro for some documentary shots which don't involve mounting it on a bike, snowboard, helicopter, motorbike, etc--just handholding, but its so light, even though the lens is super wide it shows the shakiness of handheld.
No longer! With this miniature version of a Steadicam I can get very smooth tracking shots, even short "crane" shots. Yes, you need to practise. Of the three methods of operating, I prefer the two-handed, where the right hand holds the Smoothee, the left (or vice-versa if you're left handed, it doesn't matter) has a very light touch with two fingers on the collar, to control pan and tilt. It will sway when you pan otherwise. It will react to the lightest movement, but when you move, it absorbs much of the side to side and up and down movement of walking.

I've always wanted a SteadiCam for my real camera but they are out of my price range. Now I get the experience the joy of using one on the awesome little HD Hero 2. Steady shooting is even more important with a camera that weighs so little. Works great for outdoor activities. I took it skiing. It worked really well. Easy to fine tune. Easy to use.
