Canon's PowerShot S100 Digital Camera is an advanced compact digital camera with lots of razzle-dazzle backed up by top-notch engineering. It boasts an impressive 12.1 MP CMOS sensor and a DIGIC 5 Image Processor for razor-sharp image quality. Add to that an f/2.0-5.9 24-120mm (equivalent) zoom lens, an intuitive manual-control ring, and the superbly refined Intelligent IS image stabilization system with six different modes, and you've got yourself a recipe for superb still images and video capture. There's a slew of shooting modes to choose from, and RAW + JPEG capability too. The S100 delivers pretty much anything you might wish for in a compact digital camera--and a lot more.
Not only can you capture photos with sensitivity up to ISO 6400, you can choose the degree of control you want over exposure, white balance, focus, and more, from an extensive menu. You can automatically produce High Dynamic Range, panoramic, fisheye, low-light and many more specialized photos with built-in programs.
And you don't have to stop at still photographs: shoot gorgeous 1080p HD video with stereo sound at up to 24 fps, or 720p at up to 30 fps--there's even a miniatures effect that blurs the top and bottom of the video frame, giving your subject the appearance of being miniatures.
The S100 is a simple point-and-shoot camera, and it's a serious image-making machine. You get to choose.

I shoot primarily with a DSLR and a collection of Canon L and kit lenses.... After lugging that thing around all the time I just wanted something small and powerful that I could fit in my pocket to take EVERYWHERE!
I also have a PowerShot G6 which is quite dated now and also a little bulky to put in your pocket.
This has been a great camera so far, I have had it for about a month. All the "creative" modes are kind of fun too, although I usually just shoot in Full Manual of Aperture Priority mode. It is nice to have many options. I shoot quite a bit with the simulated tilt/shift or "Miniature" mode and with the sped up video it does, it's kind of a cool effect. And honestly, the results are a little "filter" like as opposed to my TS-E 45mm f/2.8 tilt shift that I shoot with...... but hey, you can't ask for much more out of a little camera.
The only thing I would say that would bring it to a whole next level would be to have full manual control while shooting video, this is really a shame as it seems like a simple feature. But while on the topic of video, it shoots pretty amazing 1080p HD quality video and if you can keep that tiny thing steady it could seriously be used in a professional level production for lets say a low budget short film or music video.
All around, great camera! I would recommend it all day to beginners and professionals alike.
I've also provided a couple photos I've shot with it. "Short Circuitry" is shot with the miniature simulated tilt/shift effect which defaults to JPG and "Lunar Duality" is shot full manual at 1600 ISO in RAW.
Enjoy!

A great compact camera with a number of advanced features. Much like the PowerShot S95, if features Canon's easy-to-use, intuitive menu system.
The battery capacity is disappointing, both with and without the GPS receiver enabled. If there's room for improvement, it has to be on the power consumption/battery capacity side.

I'm a pro who uses a point and shoot back up. B&H is my go-to supplier and they delivered without hassle, quickly and efficiently, as always. I love this camera: does everything from 25-120mm and HD video and I will carry it everywhere because it's tiny which I cannot say about the rest of my gear.

Only purchased the S100 about three weeks ago, but after initial use at two big events have been impressed with the ease of use on auto to get photos every bit as good as my Nikon D90 on auto. Primarily used for portraits it was able to provide clear facial recognition and to expose dead on with proper fill light for a sunlit background.
Also the video quality was excellent, and focused constantly despite a lot of subject movement.

Comments about Canon PowerShot S100 Digital Camera (Black):
I am moving to Africa for 2 years (Peace Corps) and wanted a good camera but not something expensive looking. I am a total amateur snapshot taker, however I need something for pix of new friends and home, African wildlife and scenes, etc. My sister, who is an expert wildlife photographer, recommended this model and I just unpacked it. It is sturdy, compact and looks like an inexpensive point & shoot, but has heft and balance. The menu and operation are pretty easy to pick up on, and the LED screen is sharp.I also purchased an extra battery and was happy to read that the charger accepts Tanzanian voltage with a prong adapter. So, for my needs I am quite satisfied. My only thought so far is that the pop-up flash is right where you would hold the camera (top left) and this may result in damage to the flash over time. But I expect I will get used to it.

although I normally keep my DSLR on me for photoshoots, I keep this camera handy and nearby all the time. I have got some very nice shots with in when I did not have the big stuff at hand. Versatile camera, compact, shoots RAW and does a nice job on videos! Nothing that I don't like about it!

Solid camera, very well built yet small. Great picture quality and has RAW and a wealth of manual control which is great for the creative photographer. Manual flash control (without preflash) is a real positive for me as it enables me to fire studio strobes. 24mm wide angle is rare on a compact too.

I purchased the s95 for my daughter in law for her birthday and saw what a great camera it was. So when my wife dropped her old Canon P&S, breaking it, I decided that I would get her a new camer for her mothers day present. The S95 was discontinued so I went with the S100. It is perfect. Where she didn't carry her old camera with her, this one fits right into her purse. I wanted her to get it so that she can take more pictures of the grandson.

My wife and I really appreciate this little camera. We find that it takes great quality photos in numerous light conditions.
It has great internal functions for everyday photo usage. My wife loves the color accent feature as well as the miniature effect photos.
The colors really burst out with this camera and the LCD image quality is superb.
The 1080p video recording is great and I love playing around with the super slow motion video settings.
The controls are in user-friendly areas. We've had no problem learning how to quickly go through the camera's functions as they are all logically put in place.
We would definitely recommend this camera to anyone looking for a higher-end quality point and shoot camera that is small and light and loaded with features.
Thanks Canon!

Comments about Canon PowerShot S100 Digital Camera (Black):
I chose the S100 for when I don't want to carry my DSLR. I am usually carrying or chasing a toddler so something smaller was necessary. Because of the ability to change shutter speed and aperture easily, I can make this little beauty give me nearly the same results as my D90. The S100 is built solidly, grippy, and so pocketable. I put it in a little case logic bag and clip it to my belt loop or wear it from a lanyard type neck strap. Battery life is not great. Everyone complains about that. My solution was to buy another one! Problem solved. I grab the S100 90 percent of the time vs. my D90. So much more convenient- especially considering the ease and astonishing quality of the videos it takes. I really have to wonder if I need my DSLR... Thanks Canon and BH!

Comments about Canon PowerShot S100 Digital Camera (Black):
I purchased this as a backup to my DSLR, which I use mostly for wildlife. That means a long lens. There are times when I want a wide angle shot of a landscape or something and it is simply too much trouble in the field to replace lenses on the DSLR. I wanted a point and shoot that I could literally carry in my shirt pocket for that purpose. I've owned other point and shoots and didn't expect too much in terms of image quality. I've been very pleasantly surprised with the the Canon S100. The image quality is excellent and the lens is very fast at the wide end. I use it almost exclusive in aperture priority mode, which gives me a lot of control. The only thing I don't like about the camera is that most of the fancy features, e.g., scene modes and HDR, only kick in when the camera is set to automatic, which produces JPG files. I do a lot of post-processing and therefore always shoot RAW files. So I've got a manual point and shoot, which is a bit of contradiction in terms. But the camera is well suited to my intended use and I'm very pleased with the purchase. In only two weeks of use I've taken dozens of keeper shots in circumstances in which I wouldn't have tried a shot at all with my DSLR,

Mainly got this due to ability to shoot raw and fitting in a pocket better than my Powershot G11. I found it hard to frame and steady it to shoot because it is so small, and the shutter release takes a lot of pressure which causes more camera motion. Low light performance is poor. It produced some nice vacation pictures, but I really wanted something that would shoot well in the evening. Will go back to the G11 - has much better low light performance. If you don't care about RAW, there are other pocket cameras out there for much lower cost and probably equal or better performance.
