Canon's PowerShot S100 Digital Camera is an advanced compact digital camera with lots of razzle-dazzle backed up by top-notch engineering. It boasts an impressive 12.1 MP CMOS sensor and a DIGIC 5 Image Processor for razor-sharp image quality. Add to that an f/2.0-5.9 24-120mm (equivalent) zoom lens, an intuitive manual-control ring, and the superbly refined Intelligent IS image stabilization system with six different modes, and you've got yourself a recipe for superb still images and video capture. There's a slew of shooting modes to choose from, and RAW + JPEG capability too. The S100 delivers pretty much anything you might wish for in a compact digital camera--and a lot more.
Not only can you capture photos with sensitivity up to ISO 6400, you can choose the degree of control you want over exposure, white balance, focus, and more, from an extensive menu. You can automatically produce High Dynamic Range, panoramic, fisheye, low-light and many more specialized photos with built-in programs.
And you don't have to stop at still photographs: shoot gorgeous 1080p HD video with stereo sound at up to 24 fps, or 720p at up to 30 fps--there's even a miniatures effect that blurs the top and bottom of the video frame, giving your subject the appearance of being miniatures.
The S100 is a simple point-and-shoot camera, and it's a serious image-making machine. You get to choose.

I bought this by B&H (and returned it) . The camera is beautiful and well built with a nice UI. It looks so promising and as such a nice zoom ratio with just the right width and very acceptable Tele. But..... the shot to shot time is totally unacceptable. Yes, I know its not a DSLR but when a Enthusiast Camera offering so many feature's (and Raw) is slower then the Canon 300 HS one begins to wonder! Frankly the 300 HS is the best compact camera Canon has made in a long time (and I have owned a "wagon load" of Canon's )!
I was very anxious for this camera to be announced, and I had hoped with the new Digic V processor, poor shot to shot times would be a thing of the past.
So frankly if you are shooting scenic landscapes. or still life's or any non moving objects this camera is great. Otherwise if you must have a compact (as a Rebel is not pocketable) you'd be better served by the 300HS.

I'm not a real Techy person and i love the simplicity of this camera and the ease of downloading my pictures to my computer. Also the ease of shooting video. How i got on to this camera was a freind who just a cannon from B and H. Also i like you're people there at B and H. I would recomend other friends to your store, great expieriance. As for negatives i don't really have one as of yet. I like the packaging option of the case also.

Comments about Canon PowerShot S100 Digital Camera (Silver):
This is the most versatile camera I've ever owned. Its small size allows it to be carried anywhere, and switching between stills and video is easy. Great to take on vacation - with a total usable zoom range of 20:1 and excellent image stabilization, it can handle most situations. The GPS is a useful feature and works well, but depletes the battery when used in the tracking mode.

Comments about Canon PowerShot S100 Digital Camera (Silver):
This is a really good compact camera, photo quality is outstanding and focuses really fast. I've read a lot about it before making the purchase. For any potential buyers, I suggest you google for reviews first. I haven't had a lot of cameras, nor am I an expert. One thing I didn't realise was that the LCD was not a touch screen.
In terms of colour, I bought the silver one, but it's closer to champagne than silver.

Records RAW files, for maximum flexibility and artistic options in Lightroom. Ergonomic. Feels well made. Only compaint is that controls are not well located for taking pictures of oneself by extending arm.

As a professional photographer, I never owned a point and shoot. I was hoping that Canon would come out with the G13 with the new DIGIC 5 processor. When I saw the S100 and saw what it can do I bought it instead. I love it. It does everything that it is supposed to do and more. I shoot with the 5D Mark II and all the canon Lenses. This little baby is truly incredible. I would say the only draw back is in RAW it still has some lag time. But if you shoot in HQ or even use the SCN kid and pet setting it is pretty. good.

Comments about Canon PowerShot S100 Digital Camera (Silver):
I purchased my Canon PowerShot S100 (silver) from B&H two weeks ago, and have been taking hundreds of photos with it since. Prior to buying the camera, I did a lot of research on photography websites and online forums before deciding on the S100. I wanted a camera that was compact (so I could take it with me everywhere), but also allowed me full control over settings (i.e. PASM modes).
Prior to receiving the camera, I was a little concerned as I had read about decentered lenses, soft corners, and video flickering problems, but I'm glad to say that my S100 exhibits no such issues (other than what is typical for a compact camera with a small sensor and 24-120mm lens). I'm especially pleased with the good image quality and low light sensitivity, even at higher ISOs. Granted, this is not a DSLR, so bokeh is not that great even at f/2, and autofocus is on the slower side, but for a camera this small, I'll take it! Bonus points for one of the most intuitive UIs I've come across in a camera menu.
Highly recommended!

I am a proud owner of a Canon 5D Mark II with various large and bulky L series lenses. We have a new baby and I just wasn't able to lug around the 5D whenever it was needed. The Iphone pictures were just not cutting it. I researched and found that this was the best camera on the market short of a DSLR that could fit into a diaper bag. Viola!!! the reviews have spoken truth.
