Decent little flash
For the system this is a decent little flash. Not the most powerful but works when you need it to.

Comments about Nikon 1 SB-N5 Speedlight for V1 Camera:
I use this flash mostly to bounce indoors, and it works beautifully. It performs a lot like the Speedlight I use with my D80, with a little less power. Bottom line, gotta have one if you have a V1. I'm glad I got one... now I don't have to lug my big DSLR bag while traveling.

Comments about Nikon 1 SB-N5 Speedlight for V1 Camera:
Great performance if the iso is right. Had my V1 set on Auto with the 0-3200 iso. Still pictures in low light are muddy. Camera reads too low of light and flash can not make up the difference. If the iso is right, the exposure is perfect.

This speedlight is a bit pricey, but functions perfectly. It is tiny and uses the camera's battery for power to deliver a perfe
ct illumination with the camera's lens - all automatically! It enables sharp photos even in low light. An excellent buy.

Comments about Nikon 1 SB-N5 Speedlight for V1 Camera:
It easily fits onto the camera and you have to take a moment to take it off, which is good as it will not just pop off. The flexibility of this sppedlight is incredible as you can adjust the flash at angles, directly onto the subject matter or even bounce it off of a reflector.

Comments about Nikon 1 SB-N5 Speedlight for V1 Camera:
Though small, the flash is surprising powerful. In fact, in some circumstances, it can even be a bit too strong and can overexpose. But for the Nikon V1, though this flash is the only choice, fortunately, it is a good one. An extra bonus is that the flash rotates in both the vertical, for bounce flash, and the horizontal, for portrait bounce flash. Also, it uses camera power, no batteries needed. Though that can be a plus or a minus depending on your preference.

Comments about Nikon 1 SB-N5 Speedlight for V1 Camera:
The SB-N5 I bought is quite small. But it packs a wallop in the evening hours inside our home. I use it in bounce flash mode most often. The V1 camera 's iTTL exposure control means a well-lit shot in nearly every instance. You can even swivel the head of the flash to aim the bounced light off a side wall or even from behind! Sadly very low light conditions where my cats are against a dark background like our kitchen floor means that I have difficulty getting stop action images. So putting the camera in Shutter Priority mode is required. The shutter too has to be set to mechanical type to get the highest synchronization speed. Do wish this did not have to be manually mounted. The little tab that covers the hot shoe is easily lost. So buy a spare tab.

Works as expected. Does great job. The only reason I am not giving it 5 stars is that I can't extend it "off camera"...

This is a scaled down version of Nikon's award winning SB flashes. An ideal companion for the amazing V1 Camera system. Shows much promise as the go to take along system for light weight travel needs.
