Not only will a lens hood prevent some lens flair, it also protects the lens and filter from dents and scratches. I consider it as cheap insurance.

Walking around with a hood prevents light damage to your lens from bumps, and keeps the flare down on your pictures. I always have one on my lenses.

Unfortunately, no, it is not. The Olympus LH-40B Lens Hood is only available for the for M.Zuiko Digital 45mm f/1.8 Lens; it is not compatible with the Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 II R Lens. You would need to purchase the Olympus - LH-40 Lens Hood for use with the Olympus M.Zuiko 14-42mm Lens (B&H# OLLH40).

How does this mount? I just got lens and hood, and I see no way to attach the lens hood. I have other hoods so not unfamiliar.

I have the specific lens and the hood, but can't see how to mount it. There is nothing for the bayonet mount to attach to on the lens that I can see.

I've read a hood can reduce veiling on this lens on high-key scenes when you're wide open? Can anyone speak to that?

The more non-image light you can keep from striking the front lens element the better. This hood is designed to provide maximum protection from side light without cropping into the image. If the hi key light source is actually within the image you're framing the hood will have no effect on reducing flare or veiling.
