The BeachTek DXA-SLR PRO HDSLR Audio Adapter is designed to enhance audio quality with virtually any HDSLR camera by providing high quality XLR inputs, AGC disabling, built-in limiting, headphone monitoring, comprehensive metering and more. Connect up to two microphones and provide 12 or 48V phantom power to professional condenser microphones.
Each channel features a gain control switch with 0 and 15dB settings, and the low-noise preamplifiers and throughput ensure pristine audio quality, wide frequency response and detail. The AGC (Automatic Gain Control) disabling feature eliminates audio level fluctuations that can ruin an otherwise good take. The unit is built tough, mounts to the base of HDSLR cameras, and its rear mounted VU meter displays level in 3 dB increments.
Note! Certain cameras, including Panasonic Lumix and Nikon cameras, require particular cables for proper functioning.

Comments about Beachtek DXA-SLR PRO HDSLR Audio Adapter:
Shooting with 5DM3 and the client did not want lavalier or table mic's. I didn't want he hassle of dual recording with my H4N.
I picked up the DXA-SLR PRO and paired it with a Rode VideoMic Pro and got awesome in-camera audio recording from 6 feet away.
Went back to following week and bought another on for my 5dM2.
Easy to use with visible levels, ergomomic...and worth every penny.

Comments about Beachtek DXA-SLR PRO HDSLR Audio Adapter:
The Beachtek DXA-SLR PRO HDSLR Audio Adapter is an excellent item for those seeking an easy to use, durable, very high quality, pro-grade method of interfacing external audio sources with their DSLR or video cameras. In testing this item with audio segments found on the Prosõnus Studio Reference Disc, I was impressed that it easily exceeded the audio frequency range my Canon 5d Mk II camera was able to record. However when used with my cameras this item is just excellent when recording subjects such as the human voice.
In capturing all but the most demanding audio sources this and what ties into it (mics, headphones and cables etc.) will likely be all most users might need to walk away with outstanding audio. "Money saved is money earned".
However if your're going to be covering an event, such as a wedding where your customers are really sticklers for the full range of the organ music, then I'd recommend also using an external digital audio recorder, high quality and well placed mics along with your cameras. But when you're covering "the proverbial talking head" session, or most other things short of a symphony orchestra concert with its full range of audio frequencies, you should be able to save dragging a load of gear, set-up time as well as post-production audio synchronization / mixing by using the Beachtek DXA-SLR PRO HDSLR Audio Adapter.
I was already very impressed with the earlier Beachtek DXA-SLR, but this newest offering is an enhancement of the earlier model. Given the limitations of some current cameras the DXA-SLR PRO would seem to be more "future proof", as the state of the art for camera recorded audio becomes a recognized marketing advantage.
The customer service for product application and technical support offered me by those I spoke with at Beachtek was also the equal of this device. They not only resolved my questions and took as much time as I needed in order to insure I was off to a good start they also anticipated things I had not yet considered. In so doing they saved me a considerable amount of time. I could tell they were quite comfortable helping customers who are new to this technology as well as those like myself who have many years of audio recording experience. In considering the DXA-SLR PRO, and those who are there to support its use in the field, the word I would use to describe both would be, "Refreshing".

Comments about Beachtek DXA-SLR PRO HDSLR Audio Adapter:
I was just getting into DSLR production (normally use HPX250 for video). I was searching for an audio adapter and was disappointed in the choices, especially the lack of easily visible level meters. This PRO version from BeachTek delivers on all counts. Great quality sound, lightweight, easy to use. Worth the cost.

Comments about Beachtek DXA-SLR PRO HDSLR Audio Adapter:
Beachtek did a great job solving a simple problem. The Automatic Gain Control disabling featue works great - and the audio quaility is great. I do not hear any distortion or AGC noise in the recording. Certainly good enough for anyone who wishes to use a DSLR to film and record dialogue. Saves Syncing time and fiilally they put VU Meter on it - way to go Beachtek.

Comments about Beachtek DXA-SLR PRO HDSLR Audio Adapter:
When I saw the ad for this from B&H I was ecstatic and ordered it right away. This is just what I have been needing and waiting for. The product arrived and I had to immediately pack it and go to film an event. This is one product where you really need to read the manual and do some testing. I scanned through the manual minutes before I put it to the test and neglected to flip one switch that disabled the Auto Attenuation on my Canon 7D. So in effect I exaggerated the bad noise on my footage instead of eliminating it as I had hoped. SO this is a great tool but just test it out beforehand and make sure you have everything set properly. I really like the design and the way it fits so nicely with the camera and tripod. It is great to see an audio meter with my Canon 7D now. The product feels solid and seems to be very high quality.
