The CB-50DC Ballhead with QP-144750 Release Plate from Feisol inherits the two-locking-system design of previous Fiesol ballhead models, with the added feature of an outer layer of carbon--20g weight advantage, the feel of carbon (even in cold weather), and an attractive carbon-weave appearance. The dual-caliper design provides one system to lock the ballhead sphere, and a second to lock the base plate for even greater stability. This allows for the added capability of rotating the base plate while maintaining a locked sphere. The quick release system is Arca-Swiss compatible.

Love it! Holds all of the weight and maneuvers easily with control! Shooting mostly my D5 with 300 2.8 on it.

I bought this head to accompany the Feisol tournament tripod. It makes for a perfect pair. The head is totally solid and smooth. Another great Feisol gear acquisition.

Can someone explain the difference between the CB-50DC and CB-50D Feisol Ballheads? I have a Feisol CT-3442 tripod. Thanks.
While the two models are functionally identical, the CB-50DC has an outer layer of carbon which the CB-50D does not have. This feature gives the CB-50DC two advantages:
1. Compared to Aluminum (CB-50D), Carbon feels much nicer to the touch, especially in cold weather.
2. It gives the CB-50DC the matching signature FEISOL look of the exposed carbon structure, which many photographers find quite attractive.

question
Can the quick release plate attached to the head be removed easily? I am considering replacing the quick release with a lever release.
Yes, I find the plate to be very easy to remove. I use the Feisol tripod, ballhead and release plate with my Nikon D610 and various lenses. My most commonly used lens is a Tamron f.8, 24-70 zoom. To remove the plate one only needs to loosen the thumb set screw slightly, and slide the plate out. There is a safety lock, with a button release, which keeps the plate from sliding out on its own. The button is easy to push which sliding the plate. A single-lever release may be slightly faster (I have one on a different tripod), but the Feisol unit is very well built and the slide will not drop out accidentally unless the set screw is pulled back. All said, this is a fine piece of equipment.

question
I just received my Feisol CB-50DC but I can't seem to free up the ball head. It's jammed. Is there something I am missing?
If the friction control knob and the ball head lock/ release knob are both tightened down the ball head will not move. Release the pressure (loosen) on both knobs and the ball head should move. If it doesn't then there maybe an issue with your particular head. If it moves tighten the ball/lock release knob down, then adjust the friction release knob to desired preference. Should work fine from that point. If it still is locked and won't release contact purchasing agent or Feisol. Hope this is helpful.

question
Can I connect this to any tripod? I have a 20-25 year old very good and solid BOGEN Tripod. Will this connect to this tripod?
You can attach a FEISOL Ball Head to any tripod with a 3/8 Mounting Screw which is very much standard at this point.
