The adapter kit is for older CdS Gossen meters that use a stack of two 1.3V mercury cells: Luna Pro, Luna Pro S, Lunasix 3 and probably others.
The kit includes two commonly-available 1.5V silver oxide batteries (SR44) and a tube that centers them in the meter. The tube looks like some kind of hard plastic with a plate or cap at one end. It you look carefully inside the tube, you will see that the metal end has a small, raised, "button" in the center. This seems to connect to a tiny voltage regulator than brings the voltage down to what the meter requires.
In case the included instructions are not clear enough, the + ends of the batteries are "up" --- that is, when the batteries are in the adapter, the + end will be at the open end of the adapter. If you put them in backwards you get no voltage at all through the adapter.
I don't know how accurate the voltage regulation is. My volt meter indicated 3.2V for two SR44s in series, and 2.9V through the adapter.

I've used a great many light meters but my old Luna Pro is by far my favorite. When the mercury batteries finally gave out, I ended up shelving it. I was thrilled to find this little kit and ordered it right away, in spite of the seemingly high cost.
It's so simple, it does everything its supposed to do and nothing it isn't. The only factor is the cost. But when I consider all my other meters that never quite measured up to my Luna Pro, the decision to purchase was obvious. Now all my newer meters are retired to the shelf and my Luna Pro is back where it belongs in my kit.

I was very skeptical about this product. After receiving it in the mail. I immediately put the batteries and the sleeve inside the battery compartment. Pressed the test button and bingo! It worked. I compared it to my Nikon D3 and the metering was very close, I adjusted the zero balance on the meter and it was instantly on par with the Nikon's in camera meter. Great product, it was worth the price!

When i dug up my old Luna6pro meter I was dismayed that the batteries were dead but more so by the fact that I couldn't find replacement batteries.Two days later... the old meter is working again!This adapter kit with batteries fits the bill.

I bought an old Lunasix Pro meter off a friend, not realizing it used mercury batteries. I tried using an alkaline (although higher voltage) replacement, but the meter readings were off.
After seeing this adapter on B&H, I thought I would give it a try.
Installation takes less than a minute and the kit even includes batteries.
This adapter fits and works perfectly, now I have a light meter!

If you have an old Luna Pro or Lunasix 3, but don't have the money for an internal conversion, by all means this is the way to go.
I found an old Lunasix 3 and after having read about the limited life of Wein aircells, just went ahead and got this adapter kit. I haven't looked back and am very thankful for this alternative!

I have a Lunasix 3 that I used frequently for incident light measuement until I could no longer obtain the PX 625 batteries. Upon receiving the Gossen battery adapter, I bent the base contact in the Lunasix battery compartment up by about an eigth of an inch, and then set the Gossen battery adapter and the silver oxide cells in place. The battery check is correct and the Lunasix 3 is again operational.

This product solves the problem of 1.5 Volt Mercury cell demise. It becomes an economical way to upgrade over the long haul, regardless of the rather high initial outlay! The thickness of the housing, combined with two button cells, makes installation of the cover on my light meter, a challenge, however. The cover remains slightly higher. Silver oxide cells last longer, maintain better, and are easier to find.Problem solver!!

This is an expensive product for what it does - it is just two Schottky diodes in an adapter. Oh well, imagine if it were for Leica ;-)
I found a beautiful used Luna Pro for very little and this adapter has it working perfectly. So if you have a nice old Gossen meter that just needs a battery, this is worth it.
I took a star off for the price.
