Have used lots of these already - adapting either an older motherboard with no HDMI port from DVI-D (or DVI-I) to HDMI, or at the monitor end. I have never had an HDMI cable become accidentally dislodged from the adapter.

Is this available on a 25' cable, so that one end fits the laptop and another a wall outlet?

No, there is no 25' HDMI extension cable currently available, however, using this adapter, you could simply connect a 25' HDMI cable to it in order to achieve the desired length.

Is this adapter bi-directional?

Yes, the Pearstone HDMI Female to DVI-D Male Video Adapter BH #PEADVHC3 will work in both directions. It will allow you to connect a DVI source to an HDMI input or viceversa, take an HDMI source and connect it to a DVI monitor/tv.
