Kaiser Copy Stand RS 2 with 29" Column and 16 x 20" Baseboard
With the RS2 copy stand, the user acquires equipment whose overall design is based on the use of lighter camera systems. The RS2 Copy Stand (#205411) is supplied with an approximately 15.7 x 19.7 x 1" (400 x 500 x 25 mm) non-reflecting, matt black baseboard with printed grid. The column is marked with cm and inch scales and the height is adjusted by a friction drive with nylon bearings (max. 30", 760 mm). The RS2 is supplied with a repro arm with 1/4" mounting screw to hold any of the lighter cameras on the market.
The 30" column is horizontally adjustable but does not feature either a counterbalanced arm or a pivotable head. By using a high level of modularization and a broad range of accessories, Kaiser can fulfill individual requirements.
NOTE: This set contains a 29" column and 16 x 20" baseboard. It DOES NOT include any lights.

This is a simple and easy to use copy stand. It allows adjusting the camera height, as well as the distance from the column. The handle that adjusts the height lets you set the distance to the original quickly and accurately. I use the stand with a Sony 14 MP DSLR A290 camera. I recommend a fixed focal length lens for sharp copies, as zoom lenses do not have the same sharpness. The stand is made in Germany, and appears to be of excellent quality of manufacturing.

I'm using the stand for archiving old books, photos etc that are unsuitable for flat bed scanners. Working with a tethered Canon G9, but the stand will work well with prosumer SLRs. I light the subject with 2 anglepoise desk lights from an office supplies store - better value than Kaiser lighting units.
I like the solid construction, hand crank height control and adjustable distance from column. Square grid on base board assists subject alignment.
Like all other copy stands in this price range, care is needed to point the camera perpendicular, if you mind about avoiding geometric distortion. A hotshoe-mounted bubble level and/or a small mirror placed facing the camera lens solve this issue.
