The Hoya 77mm Ultraviolet UV(0) Super Multi-Coated (S-HMC) Glass Haze Filter is a wise initial investment. It helps protect your valuable investment from dust, moisture and scratches, which can lead to costly repairs.
Hoya's high transmission Super-Multi-Coating minimizes reflection at the filter surfaces which reduces flare and ghosting.
This outstanding filter offers revolutionary performance in light transmission and color balance. 12 layers of Super Multicoating are applied to the surfaces of the Skylight 1B and UV(0) models, which produces an average transmission of 99.7%.
Coupled with maximum surface precision, this allows increased resistance to flare and stunning images can be recorded at wide apertures without compromising the performance of your lenses.

I use this filter on my Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L and EF 70-200mm f/2.8L lenses. Cleaning it requires only slightly more effort than involved in a cheaper filter, which is not multi-coated; however, the build quality, fit and flare elimination features make this filter well worth its price.

Don't buy this
The UV coating was all jacked on this. I tried another Hoya UV(0) at my local camera store and it was jacked. Try B+W.

Comments about Hoya 77mm Ultraviolet UV(0) Super Multi-Coated (S-HMC) Glass Haze Filter:
I recently upgraded my camera & lenses and decided to spent a little more on better UV filters. These Hoya filters seem to be better construction than the super-cheap filters I've bought in the past. Haven't shot enough to speak to the S-HMC.

Comments about Hoya 77mm Ultraviolet UV(0) Super Multi-Coated (S-HMC) Glass Haze Filter:
I got the 77mm UV filter to protect my Canon 24-70mm F/2.7 L Series lens. It does a great job and doesn't alter the images whatsoever. I didn't give a 5 stars because the filter actually broke on me after a short while without any blunt force. I'm not quite sure why it broke, but I am dealing with Hoya now to replace it.

This filter stacks up against the Hoya super-multi-coated which is much pricier. I like the low profile for my wide shots.

An expensive (in 77 mm) but necessary item to protect the even more expensive glass of the lens. Excellent order fulfillment by B & H (as is always the case).

Comments about Hoya 77mm Ultraviolet UV(0) Super Multi-Coated (S-HMC) Glass Haze Filter:
Probably the best filter that I have used.
Although the Pro 1 Digital might be aimed for DSLR users, these SHMC filters allow 99.7% of the light through which is better! These are very well worth the price. Absolutely no degradation of the images whatsoever.

Comments about Hoya 77mm Ultraviolet UV(0) Super Multi-Coated (S-HMC) Glass Haze Filter:
This filter is well made. It "feels" well designed. Screws on to the lens without any hesitation or resistance.
The glass does not introduce any noticeable distortion. The glass cleans easily without any smudges. I tend to keep a filter like this on my lens all the time to protect the lens itself. So far I've seen no reason to remove it.
