B+W 77mm Circular Polarizer Filter - If you're out walking on a lovely day - in the mountains or at the beach - and you want to get a fabulous shot of a cloud-filled sky or make the water seem more saturated, then a polarizer is the way to go. This filter is the best way to make the clouds stand out, increase or decrease the saturation of the ocean or increase or decrease the reflection off the water. You can also use this filter when shooting into glass or windows since it will, again, either increase or decrease reflections.
If you're shooting black and white and want to simulate a threatening storm, try throwing on a #25 Red filter. The vista will take on the appearance of an imminent, ominous storm.
Along with a UV or Skylight Filter, a polarizing filter should be a part of everyone's gear bag. It can turn a run-of-the-mill image into a stunning, creative photo by increasing color saturation.
Light rays which are reflected become polarized. Polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. They can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colors providing better contrast. The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and changed by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies according to how the filter is rotated and its orientation to the sun.
The reputation of B+W's Schott glass is world renowned. The high production standards combined with a sturdy brass filter ring make B+W filters hard to beat. These filters have a "heft" to them that is impressive. They may feel heavier but the benefit is in the construction and results. Not only is the glass exceptional but so is the seal between the ring and glass. Schott Glass used in the manufacture of this filter is legendary and synonymous with the highest standards of filter production. It comes with a solid 10-year warranty.
The filter ring is made from brass yielding a stronger product. Brass filter rings are also less prone to jamming. In addition, the seal between the glass and filter ring is exceptionally strong giving the filter added strength and durability.
In production, the filter glass is dropped into the empty filter ring from the rear and held in place with a threaded retaining ring; this is a definite advantage over a competitor who uses a spring clip to hold the glass in place. A threaded retaining ring will hold the glass firmly and securely in place to avoid the possibility of rattling and provide perfect parallelity and flatness to your front lens element for ideal optics. The part about additional filters not binding is due to the fact that brass is a very stable metal and does not contract or expand like alloy.
Note! Circular polarizers are specifically designed for use with auto-focus SLR cameras (They will also work on manual systems without problems)

I have had a Tiffen 77mm Circ Pol for over a year and have never really liked it. The color just seemed weird to me. I liked my 58mm B+W, so I decided to by a new 77mm with my new 10-22 and I am very glad I did. Great color, smooth turn and solid construction. A little tough to thread though.

I debated long and hard about buying B+W, or Hoya. I had found in the past this was a very important tool to have for harsh bright conditions, or effects you want for the sky (blue). Everyone recommended B+W as top notch. I have found this filter ( and maybe it's just my copy) to be very loose, and I'm never sure if it's in the same position when I set it last, especially if I am active, or on a long hike. I really need a little more time, but the Hoya Polarizer I had for my other lens, was solid, yet easy to set. This thing just spins. I wish I had saved some money, and bought the double-coated Hoya product.

Comments about B+W 77mm Circular Polarizer Filter:
It's the polarizer I most use (also have 82mm and 72 mm). Combined with a sharp lenz (Canon 24-105) it gives brilliant results. Couldn't be better.

I shoot a lot of landscape and travel images and require a polarizer that does a good job of reducing glare and darkening skies. It is very well build; all metal; and, good threads.

Comments about B+W 77mm Circular Polarizer Filter:
I debated going with a cheaper polarizing filter, but with some research (& experience), I came to the conclusion that B+W was the way to go. Build quality is amazing! Solid, and consistant output. A little bit spendy, but that's what you have to put up with when you want quality! No regrets here!

This was my first B&W filter after buying several Hoya filters. The B&W seams to be of higher quality materials.

I do architectural and aerial photography. This lens is a must for aerial work. The B+W filter is the highest quality, as are my lenses. Why would you put an inferior filter on a superior lens? Big cities are full of haze - if you don't use a polarizing filter you will spend hours in Photoshop correcting the problem.

Built quality is amazing and works just as its suppose to. I've used other CP filters in the past and the latest was a promaster CP filter which was priced the same as this one by my local camera shop. This by far is a much better product.
I highly recommend this CP filter.

Comments about B+W 77mm Circular Polarizer Filter:
You truly can't go wrong with B+W filters and the 77mm Circular Polarizer is no exception. I did have a problem with my first shipment. The threading had a problem where I could not screw the filter on all the way. I do not count this against B+W because realistically there are going to be duds every so often, and B&H did a great job of getting it back to me asap. The replacement works perfect, and the build is excellent. The filter feels solid. As mentioned before it also allows you to put it over a UV Haze filter as well as attaching the lens cap, both of which are nice features.

Well manufactured and simple to use, performs it's roll well and adds quality to the end product. Rotating filter is firm enough to avoid slipping from the desired setting. As a amateur photographer and keen fisherman this suits my life well.
