Beseler CS-14 Overview

The CS-14 Copy Stand offers reliable Beseler performance, an 18% gray baseboard with grid and magnetic copy hold-down bars, and a unique, adjustable camera platform that facilitates the precise alignment of the optical axis of the camera over the exact center of the baseboard. Copy positioning is aided by multiple positioning grids, format patterns and reference scales on the baseboard. The camera moves on a single, straight vertical column, aided by a constant force, counterbalanced elevation system. The turn of a knob locks the camera in position at the desired height. The column is anchored to the 16 x 19" baseboard at four points and accepts any camera up to 5 lb. (2268 g). Maximum recommended copy size is 14 x 14" (356 x 356 mm).

NOTE: This copy stand is available without any lights -B&H #BECS14 (column and baseboard ONLY). Can be used with standard or reflector lamps up to 600 watts.

Beseler CS-14 Reviews

Great Copystand, Average Instructions

Rated 4 out of 5

The copystand itself is excellent; it has a lot of heft to it and will definitely stand up to a lot of use. The parts all move smoothly, and the magnetic strips are a nice little bonus. The only reason I am giving it four stars instead of five are the instructions. I was able to assemble it myself, but the directions (which look like a photocopied manual from the 80's) were on the vague side, so it wound up taking longer than it really should have. But, you only have to put it together once, so don't let that be the deciding factor on whether or not to get this great copystand.

Good purchase

Good kit. Sturdy and easy to assemble. Bulbs don't come with, though. We're using it for an animation copy stand and totally happy.

How do I get the copylight onto the holder that slides onto the horizontal bars? It appears the round piece should slide all the way into the round section on the edge of the copylight and then the knob secures it, but I can't get it to go past the edge of the inside hole (if that makes any sense). Thanks for your help.

Hi Gary, thanks much for your response. My brother-in-law is a machinist and he looked at it and said there were some "burrs" on the inside of the round section. He "sanded" it somehow and then the round piece does slide all the way into the round section. Thought it might help someone else....

question

Can CF bulbs be used in these light fixtures? I don't want hot bulbs.
Asked by: Carol
The best I can tell, without having a CF bulb to try, is that you can. Wether you should is another question. Keep in mind that the light spectrum created by different bulbs will show up in your pictures differently, and there may not be a CF bulb that matches the light spectrum of the recommended lamps.

question

Minimum Elevation9.5 (241.3 mm) Is that from the screw? Is that .../ I want to use it with a macro lens. Not sure of these numbers
Asked by: Ken
Yes, I believe it is the distance from the table to the camera mounting screw. I checked mine - it's closer to 8.75 table to screw (mine was purchased June-2014).

question

Can I use my Nikon D750 on this stand with a AF-S NIKKOR 24-70mm f/2.8G ED?
Asked by: Anonymous
Yes - I'm using it with a D800E. You'll have no problem with the D750. I'm considering putting a RRS Quick Release on the copy stand to make the process of mounting the camera faster.

question

I intend on using this for rare book photography. Do the lights in this kit provide even lighting?
Asked by: Anonymous
I use this kit for photographing moth and butterfly specimens. Since the specimens are pinned, they sit about an inch above the base of the background. I've had an issue with shadows and have had to bring in external lamps to eliminate the shadows. As long as your subject is flat on the base, you shouldn't have too much of an issue. It is convenient that the kit allows the light arms to move around, so you can tweak them to make the lighting just right.
