DJI announced the O4 Air Unit and O4 Air Unit Pro, which allow pilots to add FPV functionality to their non-FPV drones. Compared to their predecessor, the O3 Air Unit, both the O4 Air and O4 Air Pro should deliver lower latency performance for a better FPV experience. Along with the improved latency, the Pro version offers pilots more storage flexibility and 4K slow motion.
DJI’s Air Unit devices let pilots enjoy the singular experience of FPV flight with the drone they already have, rather than having to purchase a dedicated aircraft. The only requirement not included are FPV goggles, and the O4 Air Units are thankfully compatible with DJI’s expansive lineup, such as the Integra, Goggles 2 and 3, and Goggles N3.
Compared to the O3 Air Unit, the O4 Air Unit remains remarkably similar with one key specification upgrade: latency. Going from 30 ms down to 20 ms, the O4 should give pilots a much more realistic experience with smoother 1080p video transmissions at 100 fps. The O4 Air Unit Pro goes even further with a Racing Mode, lowering latency down to 15 ms, which is essential at higher speeds. To ensure this performance is stable, the Pro comes with dual antennas compared to the standard version’s single aerial.
The O4 Air Unit Pro’s expanded feature set doesn’t end there. Content creators can now select either 4K60 or 4K120 video recording. Doubling the fps opens the door for dynamic slow-mo clips in addition to standard Ultra HD video. The final big Pro upgrade is storage. While the standard O4 Air Unit offers 23GB of onboard storage and the Pro only 4GB, the enormous difference is the microSD slot on the Pro. It works with cards up to 512GB in size, dramatically expanding how much you can record per outing.
In addition to the two new Air Units are replacement components for the Pro, giving drone owners the ability to purchase the Pro’s dual antennas, camera module, and transmission module separately. Conveniently, the entire lineup of DJI O4 Air Unit products and DJI goggles, are ready to add to your aerial arsenal with a visit to B&H.
