Day One: The Thrill of Victory and Agony of Defeat & The Fundamentals of Lighting

Tuesday, June 1,1:00-2:00 P.M. EST

Join photographer Ron Wyatt (@ronwyatt1) for a discussion about capturing the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat in sports photography. Whether you're an ambitious beginner or a seasoned pro, you’ll gain a better understanding of equipment, camera setup, and planning an awesome shooting strategy. Wyatt will also emphasize the importance of knowing the game—how to have fun photographing sports and what it's like to cover the Olympic Games. Before you know it, "play ball" will resound in your neighborhood and ballparks across the land. Wyatt will help the family photo bugs prepare for capturing the action on and around the field. This is the perfect seminar to learn the basics of sports photography and see images of epic sporting events captured by a true pro.

Tuesday, June 1, 2:30-3:00 P.M. EST

Photographer Alexis Cuarezma (@alexiscuarezma) has photographed some the world’s best athletes and built his career on producing striking portraiture in a minimal amount of time. Photographing the likes of LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Floyd Mayweather, and Manny Pacquiao in different types of environments presents many challenges. However, knowing the fundamentals of lighting and photography will provide a game plan you can use in any situation to execute beautiful portraiture. See the step-by-step process Cuarezma uses to produce an image from the ground up. From this session, you'll walk away learning his approach and philosophy to lighting using minimal gear, as well as hear him answer the most frequently asked questions he gets about photography and lighting.

Day Two: Sports Images with Westcott FJ Wireless System & Rock Climbing Photography

Wednesday, June 2, 1:00-2:00 P.M. EST

Veteran photographer Joseph "JC" Carey (@jcphotomedia) been in love with photography his whole life, but it wasn’t until he took control of his lighting that he became a photographer. Sports isn’t the first thing you think of when you discuss lighting, but otherwise-ordinary sports portraits and even action shots can become extraordinary by adding and taking away light. Building on the process that Carey teaches in his “From Fear to Flash” class (don’t worry, he’ll cover the basis steps to that process), he will show you how to take advantage of different modifiers, bare lights, high-speed sync, rear curtain sync, freeze sync and more to make dynamic sports images with strobes and speedlights.

Wednesday, June 2, 2:00-3:00 P.M. EST

Irene Yee (@ladylockoff), adventure photographer, takes us up off the beaten path with her presentation “Vertical Perspectives: Rock Climbing Photography Explained.” Many folks are in awe of the breathtaking perspectives of rock climbing photography. But before you think it's out of your league, let her break it down for you from start to finish. From the different disciplines of rock climbing, to starter gear, to photos to inspire you, she will get you excited to try something new.

Day Three: Preparation and Improv in Sports Photography & Back to Our Roots

Thursday, June 3, 1:00-2:00 P.M. EST

Photographer Greg Pallante (@gregpallante) discusses the preparation and flexibility needed by modern sports photographers when working in dynamic environments. He will explain his career trajectory and tell the story of how he got a handful of photos, the equipment that was used, and the circumstances that led up to it. He will focus on the fact that he often has limited access while stressing that being prepared when things change suddenly is key to getting the images he set out for while shooting athletes like Odell Beckham, Jr., Don Mattingly, CC Sabathia, and Luis Robles, among others.

Thursday, June 3, 2:00-3:00 P.M. EST

Photographer Jen Edney (@edneyepics) takes us “Back to Our Roots” with a discussion about how to build relationships with athletes and the people you work with. It will help make things come around full circle and play a part in your current and future projects!
