From Woodstock, in the suburbs northwest of Chicago, IL, comes Other World Computing's (OWC) latest quartet of high-performance, professional grade, high-capacity memory cards. The OWC 256GB Atlas Pro UHS-II SDXC Memory Card, OWC 256GB Atlas Ultra UHS-II SDXC Memory Card, OWC 256GB Atlas Pro CFexpress Type B Memory Card, and the OWC 325GB Atlas Ultra CFexpress Type B Memory Card are here to meet the highest video and still capture demands of today's creative professionals and enthusiasts.
Known in pro circles for its excellent digital memory and storage devices, OWC's entry into the memory card market has shown the company to be a frontrunner in the industry, with impressive specs and well-built cards manufactured in Taiwan.
The attractive blue V60 OWC 256GB Atlas Pro UHS-II SDXC Memory Card features a maximum sequential read speed of 250 MB/s, a maximum sequential write speed of 130 MB/s, and a minimum sustained write speed of 60 MB/s. These specifications allow recording in 4K, Full HD, and 3D video as well as high-speed capture of full raw photos. The card is available in 64GB, 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB capacities.
In purple, the V90 OWC 256GB Atlas Ultra UHS-II SDXC Memory Card is even faster than the Atlas Pro, with a maximum sequential read speed of 300 MB/s, a maximum sequential write speed of 250 MB/s, and a minimum sustained write speed of 90 MB/s—perfect for 6K video demands as well as 4K, Full HD, 3D video, and raw photo needs. This V90-speed card is available in 64GB, 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB capacities.
Both SDXC cards are IP67-rated water and dustproof, as well as bend, shock, and X-ray resistant. For use in the field, the cards can withstand extreme temperatures from -13 to 185°F.
On the SDXC cards, the UHS-II media achieves its speed through an extra row of pins. While this card has been designed for cameras that are UHS-II / V60 or V90 compatible, it may be used in devices that do not support UHS-II / V60 or V90. Remember that this card will then default to your device's speed class and bus rating.
For devices that accept the CFexpress Type B cards, the OWC 256GB Atlas Pro CFexpress Type B Memory Card offers blistering specs—clocking in at a maximum read speed of 1700 MB/s, a maximum write speed of 1400 MB/s, and a minimum sustained write speed of 300 MB/s. A PCle 3.0 x2 bus supports 6K video, as well as 4K, Full HD, 3D video, and raw photo demands. The Atlas Pro CFExpress card is available in 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB capacities.
Meanwhile, the OWC 325GB Atlas Ultra CFexpress Type B Memory Card sports a maximum read speed of 1700 MB/s, a maximum write speed of 1500 MB/s, and a minimum sustained write speed of 1300 MB/s. This card is designed to be OWC's highest-performing card with the most advanced uses, including 8K RAW capture and continuous burst mode shooting. The Atlas Ultra CFExpress card is available in 165GB, 325GB, and 650GB capacities.
Both CFExpress cards are impact, bend, shock, ESD, UV, X-ray, and temperature resistant with an operating range from -13 to 185°F. OWC built these cards with support for CFexpress 2.0 and 1.0 to ensure they may be used with a wide range of devices, including the Pro's backward compatibility for XQD.
Boosting the appeal of these OWC memory cards, the company supports multiple environmental protection green initiatives with measurable results. OWC's Woodstock, IL, facility is powered by a Vestas V39-500kW wind turbine and geothermal heating and cooling. The company's IL and Austin, TX, facilities also use solar electricity. Pity they don't have the write speed on them to get us a reasonable idea to judge and compare with other brands.
