Sony's first G Master macro prime lens, the FE 100mm f/2.8 Macro GM, offers larger-than-life 1.4x magnification in addition to the series' renowned image quality. The new lens builds upon the niche-appreciation of the 90mm f/2.8 Macro G lens, improving in sharpness, magnification, and minimum focusing distance at 10.2". The build offers control mechanisms suited for the precision of macro photography, while the advanced optical design features both XA and ED elements. Four XD linear motors power the fast, accurate, and near-silent autofocus, whose internal, floating focus design affords the lens's compact size. Advanced Optical SteadyShot reduces camera shake in both macro and telephoto applications.
Applications: With G Master optics and "Macro" in the name, it's clear this lens is intended for close-up, high magnification shooting—but don't sleep on its efficacy for portraiture.
Perks
+ G Master optical quality
+ Accepts teleconverters up to 2.8x
+ Larger-than-life 1.4x maximum magnification for true macro use
+ Advanced Optical SteadyShot
+ Intuitive manual focus control and printed focusing distance/magnification scale
