Shure MV7: A Digital Spin on the SM7B for Podcasting and Livestreaming
10/26/2020The lofty legend of the Shure SM7B microphone has been reincarnated for the digital age of podcasting, livestreaming, gamecasting, and home recording in the form of the new Shure MV7 (available in a traditional black hue or a striking silver finish), featuring XLR and digital USB outputs, as well as embedded tech for instantly polished sonic performance that’s perfect for one- or multi-person podcasts. Drawing from decades of experience in broadcast production, studio environments, and mobile recording, Shure engineered the MV7 to surmount the challenges of working in suboptimal conditions and deliver a powerfully clear and impactful vocal presence, liberated from the burden of background noise.
Though the MV7’s exterior shares an instantly recognizable shape with the SM7B—the profile seen in countless radio stations, recording studios, and podcasting rigs—it’s what lies beneath the visible layer that changes everything.
Far from your typical dynamic transducer, the MV7 features voice-isolation technology to push extraneous room noise into the background and pull out the special sound of your unique voice simultaneously, yielding strong, professional vocals ready for the world to hear.
Gone are the tedious troubles of having to adjust recording levels manually and fiddle with compressor settings; the auto-level mode of the MV7 automatically manages gain and compression to make the capture of your voice stable and consistently intelligible with no manipulation required from you.
Another massive advantage afforded to you by the MV7 is its ability to integrate seamlessly with analog and digital recording equipment. Outfitted with XLR and USB outputs, the MV7 is ideal for connecting directly to a USB port on your device for easy solo podcasts, or it can slide right into a panel podcast setup by plugging into the XLR input of an existing audio interface, outboard mic preamp, or external mixer. It can even do both at the same time to accommodate concurrent livestreaming and recording to different platforms.
Like the SM7B, the MV7 utilizes a built-in mount to allow smooth positioning and secure attachment to a mic stand, boom arm, or desktop stand. Unlike the SM7B, it comes with cables for USB Type-C and USB Type-A connectivity. For additional convenience and customization, the MV7 supports configuration via the ShurePlus MOTIV app for iOS and Android mobile devices.
If you’re unsure of how you’ll attain a competitive edge in your podcasts, livestreams, gamecasts, and vocal recordings, grab a Shure MV7, plug it in, and let it do the work for you. Visit the B&H SuperStore or check out our website to learn more!

I'd absolutely be interested to try it out in both analog and digital applications, but not sure I'd be willing to shell out that price for something equipped with a notoriously fragile USB Micro. Especially not something bound to be moved around a lot.
