Audient has announced the rollout of their new flagship series of audio interfaces: the Horizon Series. Designed to fully meet your scale and connectivity needs, these professional rack-mounted Thunderbolt 3 audio interfaces are available in three flavors, two of which can be mixed, matched, and combined with up to four units to support up to 200x200 I/O.
All models are designed for hybrid studios and console owners with Dsub25 connections allowing for connectivity with outboard gear, along with 16 dual ADAT I/O connections and BNC word clock I/O, supporting 32-bit/192 kHz conversion with up to 133 dB of dynamic range with latency under a millisecond. All feature expanded control with the Horizon Control software, featuring a virtual patch bay, custom monitoring, onboard reverb, and cue mixes.
Here’s the rundown of each piece of gear:
- The Horizon 8P is also the odd one out of the bunch with the least amount of I/O connectivity with 24-in/32-out, but it makes up for it by including eight digitally controllable authentic Audient preamplifiers, identical to the ones found in their full studio recording consoles. Each preamp offers up to 75 dB of gain, and you can connect eight pieces of outboard gear for recording or hybrid mixing via its 8-in/8-out Dsub25 connection on the rear panel. The front panel has two Hi-Z instrument ins, dual headphone outs, and “AURA Control” variable impedance with selectable voicings.
The Horizon 8P is a complete console grade tracking front-end in a single rack-mounted unit: you can center your entire recording setup around this single device.
- Horizon 16 (34-in/34-out) and Horizon 32 (50-in/50-out) both ditch any front panel connectivity, relying on its Dsub25 Line ins and outs on the rear panel, both sporting dual ¼” line in and line outs. These I/Os are dedicated stereo mix-bus and stereo monitor outputs for printing masters and for independent reference listening respectively. The 16 and 32 can be daisy-chained together up to four instances, allowing for 200x200 I/O, and offer selectable reference levels (+18 dBu, +24 dBu).
These machines are designed to keep an entire outboard rack patched and printing to a DAW without sacrificing any inputs and are meant to be a powerful solution to integrating analog hardware and instruments to a hybrid mixing workflow.
