Announcing the Atomos Shinobi II 5.2” HDMI HDR Monitor
07/31/2024Atomos has updated its arsenal of on-camera monitors with the new Shinobi II 5.2” HDMI HDR Monitor, featuring more hardware functionality, camera control, and a sleeker, more versatile design.
Like its predecessor, the Shinobi II supports both UHD 4K and DCI 4K video inputs and features a 1920 x 1080 touchscreen display with an upgraded 1500 cd/m² maximum brightness. HDR HLG and HDR PQ monitoring modes can preview what your Log output would look like in HDR and you can upload up to eight custom LUTs for even more creative control. The Shinobi II has a slimmer profile to easily slip into your gear bag while still providing an HDMI input port. It can be powered via an L-series battery, optional battery eliminator, or via USB-C port for all day shoots.
The biggest update to the Shinobi II is the introduction of a camera control interface. A new USB-C port on the back of the monitor provides both control and power, as well as on-device calibration with a separately available Calibrite probe. An additional LANC provides even more control compatibility and the ability to calibrate using the Atomos Calibrator on Windows or macOS devices.
The interface itself uses on-screen sliders to adjust white balance, aperture, shutter speed, shutter angle, and ISO. A red edge appears on the display when the camera is recording internally as a director-facing tally light. Currently these controls are compatible with most Canon, Panasonic, and Sony cameras as well as the Z CAM E2 series, with a future update planned for Fujifilm, Nikon, OM systems, and Sigma.
AtomOS 11 outfits the Shinobi II with the latest monitoring tools for intuitive control. A camera status indicator provides an overview of the connected camera’s recording settings, battery charge, and remaining recording time. You'll also be able to toggle focus, exposure, and framing tools to create the perfect shot.
Both the HDMI and USB-C ports on the Shinobi II have locking mechanisms to maintain a secure grip. The new cables also support 4K60 footage and measure 11.8”. On one end of the cable is an HDMI connector, while the other is either an HDMI, a Mini-HDMI, or a Micro-HDMI connector for compatibility with your desired device.
