Atomos, a go-to source for professional video monitors, has updated their product line with two new monitors: the 7” Shinobi 7 II and the 19” Shogun AV-19M. Each is designed to enable filmmakers, photographers, and crew members to monitor, control, and deliver the images they envision at all stages of production.
Shinobi 7 II
The 7” Shinobi 7 II onboard camera monitor features a truly bright 2800 cd/m² display for easy viewing, even in exterior locations, plus advanced control for select cameras via a USB-C interface. Its 7” size provides a larger viewing area than a standard 5” on-camera monitor while remaining compact and lightweight. The Shinobi 7 II’s HDMI input and output ports are compatible with many mirrorless and DSLR cameras and with select dedicated pro video cameras. Support is offered for both UHD 4K and 1080 resolution video at rates up to 30 fps.
The 7” touchscreen display lets you immediately adjust camera functions with oft-used tools like white balance, lens aperture, shutter speed/angle, and ISO neatly arranged along the bottom of the screen, saving time otherwise spent scrolling through menus. The 1920 x 1080 HDR screen has a nine-section grid marker option that makes it easier to compose your shots, whether in landscape or vertical mode, a boon for solo content creators. For more advanced monitoring with controlled looks, DPs and ACs will appreciate the ability to view Rec. 709 LUTs via the camera and to upload custom 3D LUTs via the SD card slot on the side of the monitor.
Creators with any experience know how often shoot days can run over and thanks to dual power options, the Shinobi 7 II is ready to go the distance. It offers both Sony L-series type battery compatibility and a 36W PD USB-C power input that is separate from the USB-C camera control port.
Shogun AV-19M
Ideal for studio, broadcast, and live production use, the Shogun AV-19M delivers flexible multicamera monitoring for NDI, SDI, and HDMI workflows. This monitor features a large 19” 3840 x 2160 HDR display with DCI-P3 color, touchscreen control, and six front-panel assignable function buttons. Its 7RU rackmount form fits easily into your control room, OB vehicle, video village, or DIT cart setup and it can be powered from a separate power supply or block battery using the dual 4-pin XLR DC power inputs.
Professional interfaces comprise an RJ45 Ethernet port for NDI HX3 input/output, 12G-SDI and HDMI input and output, and three-pin XLR audio output. Multi-camera compatibility includes the ability to view a single source in full screen or up to four sources, including NDI HX3, in a quad-view setup.
Advanced viewing options include nuanced HDR, HLG, and PQ compatibility, plus a full suite of Atomos pro imaging tools including accurate exposure, focus, and framing functions with EL Zone, false color, waveform, and focus peaking. The assignable buttons let you access your favorite tools, including anamorphic de-squeeze, to the easily accessible front panel. Not unlike the Shogun AV-19, the slightly more economical Shogun AV-19M does not offer genlock, camera control, touch focus, or internal recording. Additional pro features include a front LED tally light and both an actively controlled fan and a heatsink.
