DJI Releases the Air 3 with Dual Cameras, a First for the Series

Packed with new and enhanced features, the newly released DJI Air 3 Drone is the successor to the Air 2S, making significant leaps forward in aerial content creation. For the first time in the Air series, the Air 3 has dual cameras that feature wide-angle and 3x telephoto capabilities. An additional first is the inclusion of Waypoint, the flight routing feature that lets you plan, save, and repeat routes and camera movements. These features are joined by an extended 46-minute battery life, 12.4-mile O4 video transmission, and more.

The dual wide-angle and 3x telephoto camera system comes equipped with 1/1.3" CMOS sensors that capture 48MP stills and video at a variety of resolutions. Record at a maximum 4K/100 or 4K/60 with the addition of HDR, or at 2.7K in a vertical aspect ratio. The vertical option is ideal for influencers who want ready-made clips to immediately post and share on social media. The cameras can also take advantage of two color modes: 10-bit D-Log M and 10-bit HLG. These modes help with post-processing, where D-Log M preserves highlights and details for flexible editing, and HLG retains dynamic range without the need for color grading.

These professional specifications can be made to look even more cinematic with DJI’s assortment of flight modes. FocusTrack, QuickShots, MasterShots, and Hyperlapse all continue to offer pre-programmed flight maneuvers that let beginner to pro pilots alike achieve complex aerial shots with ease. The new Waypoint flight routing feature is a part of Hyperlapse, and its ability to be repeated lends itself perfectly to long-duration timelapse video capture.

Safety continues to be paramount in the Air series with the Air 3’s omnidirectional obstacle avoidance system, which returns with an upgraded APAS 5.0 that results in smoother movements around detected obstructions. Obstacle avoidance is also available for the Smart RTH feature that can automatically bring the drone home when needed.

As is common with DJI drones, the Air 3 comes in both standard and Fly More Combo configurations. The Fly More Combo with RC-N2 keeps the standard remote, while the Fly More Combo with RC 2, with its built-in 5.5" display, upgrades the remote to the RC 2. The primary Fly More Combo accessories, such as extra batteries, propellers, a charging hub, and shoulder bag, are the same in both versions. These and other accessories, such as the DJI RC 2 remote, intelligent flight batteries, a battery charging hub, ND filter set, gimbal protector, propellers, propeller guard, drone holder 2.0, and wide-angle lens, are also available individually.

DJI’s new addition to the Air series is truly a significant step forward in the category, adding features that move the Air even closer to the more advanced Mavic, while keeping it accessible to all skill levels.
