Tough & sophisticated travel companion
I'm a video editor that does a lot of on-site work. I bought this case to carry/protect my 17" MBP along with the usual assortment of hard drives and video accessories.
I'm a video editor that does a lot of on-site work. I bought this case to carry/protect my 17" MBP along with the usual assortment of hard drives and video accessories.
Great thing about the case is that it holds quite a bit. The foam comes in two layers so there's plenty of room for two hard drives, an MXO, a 17" MacBook Pro and all the necessary cables/power supplies. I used to carry all of this in a soft-sided backpack which offered little protection and was heavy to carry. The 1510 is built like a tank so protection is not an issue and the fact that it has a retractable handle and rollerblade-like wheels makes it a whiz to navigate through airports. I was a bit concerned that it wouldn't fit in a plane's overhead compartment but no problems there...slides in nicely with room to spare.
The downsides are few. Getting through airport security takes a bit of a ballet. Because of the two layers of foam, it's a little tough to get the gear out of the bottom layer and through the X-ray machine in a timely manner. But, with a little practice you get used to this and I've now got it down to a science and quickly sail through.

Check your airline carry on limits.
This is a great case but for many airlines it's not carry-on approved. It's weight is 6.17kg and eg: Qantas carry-on limit is 7kg. So a packed case is overweight.

Even though this case seems pricey, you get so much more out of it than the money. Peace of mind knowing that my camera equipment is dry and protected is important to me.

Comments about Pelican 1510 Carry On Case with Foam Set (Black):
The case is extremely durable, and holds up to Pelican's world famous reputation.
Although it is "carry-on" size, the weight of the case alone (let alone, filled with equipment) will put you very quickly close or potentially over any carry-on weight restrictions.
I use it as carry-on whenever possible, and it's durable (perhaps an understatement) enough to check in as baggage when needed as well.

I use this to transfer equipment on surf and dive trips. Great, hearty case.
Only complaints - some airlines will tell you it is NOT carry on size.
Black color absorbs heat. If you are outside a ton, might want to go with green or tan.

Excellent value for a lifetime guaranteed protective case. With the theft problem so rampant at airports around the world, being able to keep valuables with you in the aircraft in carry-on sized luggage is beneficial. The downside is the weight, but that is to be expected given the strength of the case.

I use this case to carry my 7D body, 24-70MM Canon lens, 70-200MM lens, & 300MM Canon 2.8L lens. It leave very little room after that. I shoot youth sports rolling this around to various events. It is clunky but it ensures my equipment is well protected. I intent to also purchase a 1600 series case since it is a bit larger so I can carry additional lens, equipment, and a 2nd camera body. For now this will do fine.

Pretty basic case. I like the secure latches. When you snap them shut, there is no doubt it is closed. Only draw back was the foam. I wish I had bought something precut exactly to fit my camera. Not a huge problem, because the rough cutout I did works fine, but I'm really picky, so a "rough cut" cradling my [$] shiny camera doesn't look as pretty. The camera is more than protected, but I can never make the foam cutouts look as clean as they do in the catalogs. I have not flown with it yet, but for just driving around and dragging to shoots, it works fine. I don't anticipate any issues with flying with it.

Another great case from pelican. All my gear is stored in pelican cases. The size of this one was perfect for my O'connor Mattebox, and a set of 4x5 Filters. Do know that the edges of the bottom are extruded in a bit because of the wheels, which isn't too big of a deal, but something that you'll have to deal with. The pluck foam isn't the greatest, as it doesn't hold shape well if you leave it thin.

I absolutely love this case! You can't go wrong with Pelican. It's very tough and durable.
I got the one with foam inserts just because I don't want my camera gear sliding around like it would with compartment inserts.
I also got the pocket insert to put on the underside of the lid, which I highly recommend.
If I had anything negative to say, it would be that it's a little on the heavy side, but the wheels make up for it.
For anyone who carries around expensive and fragile camera gear, it would be foolish not to have one of these.

I am actually using this to transport my radio control race car when traveling via airplane. Could not be happier with this product. Super burly, ergonomic handles big enough to fit my gear and small enough to bring on the plane.

Semi-Pro videographer looking for something that would keep my gear safe and leave me with piece of mind.
Very strong durability the foam padding is great for insulation and keeps heavy gear from moving around.
Great product. Small enough to take as a carry on yet durable to be placed in checked baggage if needed.
There are not to many faults with this product the only thing that comes to mind is making sure that you cut your foam smaller then your equipment to make sure it is secure. if you screw up on the foam you will have to by a new one so be careful.

Comments about Pelican 1510 Carry On Case with Foam Set (Black):
I purchased this because I wanted to be able to carry my equipment on the plane as a carry-on plus I wanted something I could use to transport my equipment when on the water. This fulfills both requirements and MUCH more.
It is just the right size to carry all the basic equipment. I have it carrying a D5100, 3 lens (including a telephoto) a SB-900 Speedlight, and all my misc stuff like, cords, hoods, filters, adapters, and batteries. The foam is very easy to mold to the exact size of your items.
I used to be in the Airforce and we used Pelican cases to transport radios and satcom equipment, so I know they can withstand almost any punishment while keeping your equipment safe.
Very Satisfied!

Comments about Pelican 1510 Carry On Case with Foam Set (Black):
Pelican is probably the first name in weatherproof cases. I have no idea if they're the best, but I know that off-brand cases in this style are still referred to as Pelicans.
The 1510 is small enough to use as a carry-on item, but large enough to fit a small, dSLR or HD camera and a few accessories. It also can roll -- which every carrying case ought to be able to do.
Honestly, it's perfect for my needs. The only downside is that the pick and pluck foam is only two, thick levels deep, and for a better customization a three level system would have been preferable. This is a totally livable problem, though, and I would never suggest that that affect one's purchasing decision of this product.
Likely, as my camera kit expands, I will get another 1510 for accessories, rather than upgrading to a larger case like a 1560, simply because this is such a good size.

I dragged this case from Philly to ST Paul and back and all through the city streets with my delicate art inside, it got thrown around by airport baggage handlers. Every thing came through without a scratch. I couldn't be happier with this pelican case. M. K.
