The Rode NTG-2 is a condenser shotgun microphone designed for professional audio capturing in the field or indoors. With a history of manufacturing quality studio microphones, Rode has implemented low noise output electronics and wide bandwidth, both of which attribute to the NTG-2's broadcast sound quality.
The super-cardioid polar pattern and line plus gradient acoustic principle effectively minimize audio and noise at the off-axis (sides) of the microphone, while the front of the capsule accurately reproduces incoming audio signal. The result is greater intelligibility and signal-to-noise ratio when using the NTG-2 in noisy environments. The NTG-2 is powered with an internal 1.5V AA size battery or an external +48 Volt phantom power source, the output is a standard 3-pin XLR male connector. The microphone features a rugged, all metal, lightweight enclosure that is ideal for camera mounting yet durable enough to withstand the rigors of heavy road use. The Rode NTG-2 is packaged with a microphone stand mount and windscreen.

Comments about Rode NTG-2 Shotgun Microphone:
This is a really awesome microphone I ordered to go with my Canon Rebel T2i. It has AMAZING sound quality and looks really professional. This microphone will make everyone's head turn. The only problem is that you will very likely need to buy a sound recorder or a camera that can change audio levels because quality is lost when the audio is recorded directly into the camera. I would also recommend getting a secondary shock mount because the plastic knob to attach to a hot-shoe wore out the first day I used it.

Comments about Rode NTG-2 Shotgun Microphone:
Used it with Sony HDR FX-1 whose main drawback is the sound and the lack of xlr phantom power input. With NTG-2 my Sony leaps from prosumer to pro. Also looks good, especially with a windshields like "dead cat" or WS6

Comments about Rode NTG-2 Shotgun Microphone:
I purchased this mike package to work with my Canon HV-30 but the supplied shockmount is too big for the Hot-shoe. Other than that..the sound quality is great.

Comments about Rode NTG-2 Shotgun Microphone:
PROS:
After purchasing several Rode mics, I can say that the construction quality of all their units is extremely high, and the preformance is consistently good. Other positive attributes are the price and the fact that the mic does not need phantom (preamp) power when the internal battery is used. This is nice when using it with small hand-held recorders. Overall, I found it ideal for on-camera video, voice-over, and overhead boom for dialogue. Also, the company is very accessible and stands behind it products like IRON!
ADVICE:
You will definitely need a better dead cat than the one that comes with the unit. This mic is quite sensitive for a Super-Cardiod, and picks up the slightest air movement.
