In 2016, HTC made a name for itself in the virtual reality world with the original Vive Headset. The Vive headset was widely regarded as one of the flagship VR headsets, especially when it came to VR gaming. Now, two years later, HTC has made several improvements with the HTC Vive Pro VR Headset.

The Vive Pro features dual 3.5" OLED displays with a total resolution of 2880 x 1600, which is a 37% ppi (pixels per inch) increase and a 78% pixel increase over the original Vive. The displays still feature 90 Hz refresh rates and a 110° field of view. The Vive Pro also comes with integrated headphones for 3D spatial audio for an immersive audio experience. The built-in microphones also allow for active noise cancellation. The microphones also support Alert Mode and Conversation Mode, so you can hear your surroundings without having to remove the Vive Pro headset.

Many complaints about the original Vive headset focused on its weight. HTC Vive Pro addresses this issue with an ergonomic redesign with an optimal center of gravity and a head strap that balances the weight of the headset more evenly. VR headsets have also not been kind to people with prescription eyeglasses, but the Vive Pro has simple adjustment buttons so they can find a good fit.

The Vive Pro still has the Chaperone guidance system to alert you if you approaching the boundary of a play area. Combined with SteamVR, the HTC Vive Pro provides you with access to VR games through Valve’s Steam client. It is recommended that you run a SteamVR performance test on your computer to ensure that you can take full advantage of the Vive Pro.

Please note that the HTC Vive Pro VR Headset does not come with the controllers, base stations, or the Vive wireless adapter. These accessories are sold separately and are required for the full room-scaling, interactive virtual reality experience.
