Samsung Announces New 990 M.2 NVMe SSDs

Whether you are gaming, handling large files, or anything between, Samsung is here to assist with its latest all-purpose 990 M.2 NVMe SSDs. Balancing performance, capacity, and value, the 990 can fit into a myriad of scenarios no matter what you are doing. Whether you need to expand your storage by a little or by a lot, you have options with 1TB and 2TB models.

Featuring PCIe 4.0 technology, the 990 delivers solid performance with max sequential read and write speeds up to 7250 and 6450 MB/s, respectively. This equals up to 850K random read IOPS and 1200K random write IOPS while maintaining a low power operational throughput of 4.3W and lower.

The 990 is built using Samsung's specialty hardware including dedicated V NAND chips, a dedicated In-House Controller, and HMB cache memory. Additionally, Samsung's own Intelligent TurboWrite 2.0 technology enables the SSD to perform faster and better, reworking the way data is stored and recalled for faster processing and overall positive performance yields.

Longevity- and security-wise, there is a lot here. We have ample data encryption options including Class 0 AES 256, TCG/Opal v2.0, and MS eDrive (IEEE1667). The 1TB drive has a 400 TBW capacity while the 2TB version has an 800 TBW, prolonging the lifespan of the drive during write-heavy tasks.
