What Dads are Looking for This Holiday Season

0Share

The holidays are upon us and if you need some ideas for what to get dear old Dad, we've got you covered. Our guide includes a wide range of tech gifts from brands like Apple, Sony, DJI, and more. No two dads are alike, so the staff at Explora has put together recommendations for all types of tech-minded fathers.

A New Perspective

If Dad has ever been curious about drone photography, it's a fantastic time to enter the space. Not only did DJI's long-awaited Mini 3 Pro just drop, but the company has also finally brought long-requested features to the DJI Mavic 3, as well, this year. And if drone photography or video isn't his thing, per se, and he just wants to experience the joy of flight, then the DJI FPV Drone Combo makes for an immersive alternative that's bound to appeal to his inner Maverick by letting him see what the drone sees in real time while piloting it.

The Game Must Go On

With it somehow still being nearly impossible to get a new Xbox or Playstation this year, alternative spaces to game are only growing in popularity. Whether that's a gaming laptop, finally building your PC or even getting into the VR space, there's absolutely no shortage of offerings for the gamer-dad in your life. The recently rebranded Meta Quest 2  is still our absolute favorite VR headset and, despite being 2 years old at this point, provides the lowest cost of entry for anyone looking to get into the VR space. And if dad isn't strictly a gamer, there are still so much other content and experiences available via Meta's marketplace.

The Smart Home Dad

If Dad's the kind of person who loves making improvements to the home, there's a whole range of accessories that would make for excellent gift ideas. For example, if he doesn't have access to a smart TV, a streaming media player might be a great gift idea or a video doorbell, from Ring, for the extra peace of mind and security. Alternatively, smart displays like the Amazon Echo Show 8 or Google Nest Hub are excellent bedside companion devices for tracking sleep, controlling the temperature or other smart home devices like Phillips Hue lights. Dad will definitely appreciate the help staying organized and simplifying his life.

Have you seen my…

If your dad is anything like me, he might find himself losing things often. Give him peace of mind with a Bluetooth tracker like this Essential's Kit from Tile, which includes a variety of trackers that serve different purposes. The Mates can be used with keys or attached to a bag with optional keyrings or straps or even the family pet for those dog dads out there. The Slim features a card-shaped design and can slide into narrow areas for more inconspicuous tracking, such as with a wallet or notebook sleeve. The Sticker uses adhesive to stick to and track things with which the other trackers aren't compatible. If your dad is an Apple guy, Apple's AirTags are without a shadow of a doubt the best item-tracking gadgets for iPhone users with Find My support. There's even a pretty robust selection of accessories for the AirTags, ranging from keyrings and loops to bracelets for kids.

Listen, Dad

Give Dad the gift of convenience and high-fidelity sound wrapped in one with a smart speaker. Typically equipped, or at least controllable by, a virtual assistant, these speakers will respond to voice control with virtual assistants such as Alexa or Siri. So, if he’s gotten comfortable and doesn’t want to get up to change the lights or just wants some music for his down time, he can ask his virtual assistant to start whatever playlist he wants. Smart speakers can vary greatly depending on the price point and some are portable, like the Sonos Roam, while others like the HomePod mini need to be tethered to one location. The Sonos Roam is one of our absolute favorite items, with sound quality that'll earn it a permanent place in your living room and double as a portable speaker, to boot. It's also a rugged, IP67-rated, waterproof speaker, making it the perfect one to take on any outdoor excursions―complemented by a sizeable 10-hour battery life.

Not-So-Quiet Time

Wireless headphones are a great gift idea, regardless, but treating Dad to a pair of noise-canceling headphones is going that extra mile whether he's a frequent commuter or working from home (and all the distractions that go along with it). Sony very recently launched the latest version of its flagship noise-canceling headphones that can stack up with the very best offerings from other brands like the Bose® QuietComfort™ 45 or even Apple's own AirPods Max. Sony's WH-1000XM4 earned the company universal praise in the noise-canceling headphones market and the WH-1000XM5 iterates on that with some noticeable improvements such as even better noise cancelation and a more comfortable design. Sony's headphones also provide a pretty hefty 30-hour battery life and can be fast-charged, so this pair makes for a fantastic daily-use pair.
