Today, in a surprise announcement, Apple unveiled its long-rumored, over-ear wireless headphones, the AirPods Max. Design alone should qualify the AirPods Max as a premium pair of wireless headphones. Available in five different colors and featuring elements that enhance the aesthetics and comfort, the AirPods Max promise to wear as good as they look—and they look really, really good.

According to Apple, the AirPods Max feature a “breathable knit mesh canopy” that spans the entire stainless steel headband, a pair of smooth, easy-to-operate telescoping arms, and two big earcups filled with “acoustically engineered” memory foam that comforts your head while creating an optimal seal. Apple claims these earcups also use a “revolutionary mechanism” that allows them to pivot and adjust to the unique contours of your head, creating a customized fit just for you.

Beneath the pleasing exterior, the AirPods Max feature Apple's custom 40mm dynamic driver system that promises to deliver a “breakthrough listening experience.” As of right now, that's all just talk, but there's definitely some serious muscle behind that hustle—specifically, Apple's H1 chip and advanced processing software, both of which are held in high regard.

Along with impressive internals, the AirPods Max also feature several advanced listening modes and features, including Adaptive EQ, Active Noise Cancellation, Transparency Mode, and Spatial Audio, which tracks your head movements and adjusts the sound field to heighten immersion.

Along with the premium build and sound quality, the AirPods Max also offer a long-lasting, 20-hour battery life, Siri support, and seamless integration into the entire Apple ecosystem.

While we've yet to test out their sound quality, it seems fairly obvious the AirPods Max belong in the premium headphones category. Featuring an undeniably attractive design, the established power and performance of Apple's H1 chip, and a long list of advanced listening features, the AirPods Max appear to be the premium wireless headphones we've been waiting for.

The AirPods Max are available in five different colors: silver, space gray, sky blue, pink, and green.
