Continuing its trend of surprise announcements, Apple has unveiled yet another updated device. This time, it's a refresh of the lauded wireless headphones, the AirPods, which feature bolstered specs across the board, including bumps in battery life, efficiency, and sync times—not to mention just-added voice-activated "Hey Siri" functionality.
The secret behind the AirPods' impressive update is the new Apple-designed H1 chip, which was engineered specifically to improve the headphones' efficiency and performance. Those improvements translate to 50 percent more talk time (roughly, 1 hour) and two-times faster connect times between devices, so you'll be able to sync and listen faster than ever. In addition to those performance enhancements, the second-gen AirPods now feature hands-free Siri functionality, which enables users to change songs, make phone calls, adjust playback volume, and more, using voice commands.
The second-gen AirPods come with two options for charging cases: standard or wireless. Both cases hold enough juice for more than 24 hours of additional listening time. As an additional benefit, the wireless charging case supports Qi-compatible devices, so you can recharge it wirelessly. You can also buy the Wireless Charging Case separately.
The second-gen AirPods and accessories are available to order now, at B&H.
With nearly 35 million units sold, the original AirPods are Apple's most popular accessory to date. Do you think the second-generation AirPods can top them? Let us know in the Comments section.
