Founded in the early 1990s by an aspiring movie producer and his band of engineers, designers, and classically trained musicians, Definitive Technology has sought to build speakers that could produce detailed, full-range sound, and these speakers, as well as their Bluetooth headphones, home theater amplifiers, wireless speakers, and wireless adapters for conventional stereo systems, are now available at B&H.
Definitive Technology is known primarily for its home theater speakers, such as the BP9020, BP9040, and BP9060 floor-standing speakers. The BP9020 features an 8" powered woofer with two 3.5" midrange drivers, a 1" tweeter, and a rear-mounted 3.5" midrange driver, and accepts up to 200W of power. The BP9040 ups the ante by upgrading to 4.5" midrange drivers and adds a rear midrange driver plus two 8" bass radiators, and a recommended amp power up to 300W. The BP9060 replaces the 8" powered woofer and bass radiators with 10" versions, for more bass. All of these feature a proprietary connection for an upward-firing Atmos speaker, which I will discuss later; the big brother to these three, the BP9080x, has an Atmos channel built in with a 5.25" midrange driver and 1" tweeter, while the main body of the tower sports a 12" powered woofer, two 5.25" midrange drivers, two 12" bass radiators, and the same 1" aluminum dome tweeters.

The aforementioned proprietary Atmos speaker is the A90. Sold as a pair, the A90s will snap onto the top of your BP9000-series towers (after removing the top plate) and receive power and signal from the integrated connector, which is routed from the height-channel binding posts on the back of the floor-standing speaker.
In a true surround sound system, the center channel brings you all your dialogue, which is a key element in enjoying your favorite movies. The CS9040 features a two-way design with two 4.5" midrange drivers, a 1" tweeter, and an 8" passive bass radiator, and accepts up to 200W. Its big brother, the CS9060, has a three-way configuration, swaps out the passive radiator for an 8" powered woofer and accepts up to 300W. For more bass, the CS9080 switches to 5.25" midrange drivers and adds a 10" bass radiator.
Another major component in a surround system is the rear, or surround, speakers. Both the SR9040 and SR9080 feature a two-way design with a unique bipolar design, which places one tweeter and one midrange driver on the left and right side of the speaker to provide a broader soundstage than traditional designs. The SR9040 has two 1" tweeters and two 3.5" midrange drivers with 150W maximum recommended amp power, while the SR9080 replaces the 3.5" drivers with 4.5" drivers and 200W maximum recommended power.
Rounding out these individual home theater components is the W Amp, a 2.1-channel network amplifier with a 150W-per-channel peak output and Class-D amp design. Geared toward music, as opposed to movies and TV, the W Amp will play music from streaming services such as Pandora and Spotify.
Definitive Technology also offers soundbar solutions in the W Studio and W Studio Micro. The W Studio outputs up to 320W of total power, features DTS Play-Fi streaming, and includes a wireless subwoofer and a wall-mount bracket for the soundbar; the W Studio Micro’s a 3.1-channel design accepts up to 146W of total power, has DTS Play-Fi streaming, includes a wireless sub, and the soundbar itself is wall-mountable with the built-in keyhole slots.
If you have an existing system you’d like to bring into the wireless world, the W Adapt Wi-Fi music receiver will let you do just that. It connects to your system via an optical, digital coaxial, or stereo RCA cable and will connect to your smartphone, tablet, or computer to stream from your favorite streaming services. It also provides an optical, stereo RCA, and 1/8" AUX input to expand your system’s wired connectivity. It connects to your network via Ethernet or dual-band Wi-Fi.
The W7 (available in black or white) and W9 speakers offer wireless connectivity via DTS Play-Fi plus wired options with their optical and 1/8" audio inputs. The W7 outputs up to 90W of total power and features four 1" tweeters, a 4" mid/woofer, and two 4" bass radiators, while the W9 outputs up to 180W of total power from its two 1" tweeters, two 2.25" mid/woofers, and two 2" full-range drivers. The W7 features a cube-like form factor, while the W9 is noticeably more rectangular in design.
Do you travel with your music? The Symphony 1 Bluetooth headphones feature active noise cancellation to help block out the sounds of the train and your fellow commuters. They use 50mm balanced PET drivers with a built-in rechargeable battery that will last up to 15 hours. You can also use these with non-Bluetooth devices, thanks to the included 1/8" detachable cable. These also feature a built-in microphone for phone calls.
As always, if you need help determining the right product, the friendly, knowledgeable sales staff at B&H will be happy to help, either in the SuperStore, over the phone, or via chat or email.
