Sonos Announces Updated Arc Soundbar, Five Wireless Speaker, and Sub (Gen 3) Wireless Subwoofer

0Share

Sonos continues its tradition of producing brilliant audio from beautifully designed devices with a trio of updates: the Arc soundbar, Five wireless speaker, and Sub (Gen 3) wireless subwoofer. The Arc serves as Sonos’s latest soundbar, incorporating Dolby Atmos compatibility to achieve immersive sound environments for home theaters and gaming. The Five updates the Play:5 as a room-filling yet relatively compact wireless speaker. The Sub (Gen 3) continues Sonos’s tradition of producing deep bass in beautifully designed housings. All three are available in black or white finishes. Sonos has also announced a wall mount for the Arc, as well as a custom wall mount for the One, One SL, and Play:1 speakers.

The Arc produces vibrant, powerful audio for your home theater while maintaining an ultra-minimal design. Featuring 3D sound via Dolby Atmos, it creates a multi-dimensional soundstage for watching movies, playing games, or streaming audio. Five phase-array channels and Trueplay tuning technology tailor output to your environment. Eleven drivers, including custom elliptical woofers, work together with angled side tweeters to generate powerful, clean sound. Speech Enhancement mode can be activated to make it easier to hear dialogue when characters speak softly or their surroundings are loud.

The Arc is compatible with the Sonos app and Apple AirPlay 2 so you can stream audio when your television is off. It can also be paired wirelessly with other Sonos speakers to achieve an even more robust effect. Finally, it features Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, built in, for voice control, an ambient light sensor for displays, capacitive touch controls for quick adjustments, HDMI eARC, and automatic remote sync.

The Five, tuned by producer Giles Martin, creates dynamic sound and impressive bass from a relatively small build. Incorporating three high-excursion woofers in a sealed housing, it is able to achieve powerful output while eliminating reverb and echo. Two angled tweeters work to fill its environment while a centrally positioned tweeter optimizes vocal playback. Stereo sound can be accomplished either by positioning a single speaker horizontally, or a pair of speakers upright to communicate with one another.

Audio can be played wirelessly via Apple AirPlay 2 or a Wi-Fi network. A 3.5mm line-in port can also be used for wired connections to audio equipment. Additional features include Trueplay speaker tuning capabilities, humidity resistance for bathroom or covered patio installations, voice control, and capacitive touch control.

The Sub (Gen 3) incorporates two force-canceling drivers positioned in the middle of its build to reduce vibration or rattle, achieving deep bass without distracting clatter. When paired with other Sonos speakers, the Sub will take low frequencies so that other speakers can prioritize mid- and high-range frequencies. The Sub's museum-worthy design means you won't have to worry about trying to find a place to hide it out of sight. Finally, the Sub connects to your Sonos system via Wi-Fi, features Trueplay tuning, and has boosted its memory and processing power.

Along with its latest speakers, Sonos has also announced a wall mount for the Arc, as well as a custom wall mount for the One, One SL, and Play:1. The custom mount swivels up to 45 degrees and allows you to position your speaker upright, horizontally, or upside down for easier access to controls. While the mounts fit like a glove, ports and controls remain accessible so you don't have to make any sacrifices to functionality.
